This is concerning mjsh a lot more than me. We have reached the magical 3 week mark where her eyes are fully open, she is gaining weight anlmost by the oz, and is doing the drunken sailer walk. Just had a vet visit that advised mixing kitty chow in her milk that to say she has been enthusiastic about would not do it justice. The concern: is mish overfeeding? The cat has a belly on her that would make me proud! That is to say its huge! Lol. Will the kitten limit herself or is that our job?

I can't add the picture from my phone, but here is the picture. She jumped from .2-.25oz to .4-.5oz! She's always had a bit of a tummy, but this is a bit bigger then usual! When she eats her new food she acts like she hasn't eaten in her whole 3 weeks. She's 10.7oz now.

Pregnant and lactating cats, and kittens, should be feed as much as they want to eat.

How up-to-date is the worming for mum & kittens?

Oh we forgot to mention in this thread that she's orphaned. We never met the mom. I took her to the vet last week and they said they dewormed the kitten. I didn't know you could with her so young, but I haven't seen anything in her poop. But still plan on the 6 weeks deworming.

Glad you've had the kitten to the vets and that she's been wormed.  You won't necessarily see anything in her stool even if she has worms.  Is she passing stool normally?

She had to have an enema a few days ago but now she's going well.

Ahahahahhaha that big belly cracks me up! I had this problem with one of my fosters too- he literally had such a fat belly it would drag on the ground. He practically took a bath in his food he was so into eating. I took him to the vet and she checked him for worms, she said he was fine, that he just has a ferocious appetite. The rest of his body has started to catch up to his belly but he is still a little chunker (about 2.5 pounds at 7 weeks). If they de-wormed her and her belly doesn't seem distended and she seems content then let her do her thing. As OrientalSlave said, kittens should be allowed to eat as much as they want. Although, I would let her know she's not going to be able to keep her girlish figure later in life if she eats like that!

BTW personally I wouldn't mix food with milk.  Doesn't happen in nature...  I put the food in a shallow dish on the floor, kittens eat if they want.  It can get very messy at first.

Agree, at 3 weeks his little tummy can't digest or handle too much food. Best to let it happen naturally.

Since she was two weeks we've had the problem of her not pooping. To the point of 2 enemas by the vet. Since the kitten food glop mix she's being going really well. As a matter of fact while she was getting tummy time (she wants all tickles devoted to her tummy, has since she could roll over) she pooped on me without stimulation. Her tummy getting big had me alarmed, but it helping her bowels has me thrilled!
