On Sunday I was finishing up my shift and went out the back door to put some cardboard away. As soon as I opened the door, it hit a cardboard box with a little kitten inside. I brought the box inside and called over my coworker. She's been working there since the store opened and said nothing like this has ever happened there but that it happens all the time at the stores that have cats up for adoption in them. We decided that I would take him home for the night and she would call the vet in the same plaza in the morning to see if they could get him in for a check (both of us live in apartments and we both have other animals). I don't know why someone would leave him at our back door, we barely ever use it except when our shipment comes once a week and to take cardboard/garbage out (maybe 3 times a week). He spent the first night in my bathroom and did pretty good. He used the makeshift litterbox, although once he went behind the toilet and basically just slept above the toilet (the lid was closed of course). We took him to the vet on Monday, they looked him over and gave him the ok to be out and about in the same areas as my other pets as long as they are vaccinated (they are). Best of all, they did it for no charge! They also said they would allow us to put posters up there and would suggest him to any of the people that came in looking for a kitten. They guessed his age between 6 and 8 weeks old.

So far, he's in love with the cat tree and the toilet. He loves to sleep behind it and when you come in to use it he'll try to flip the lid shut on you (my boyfriend isn't so fond of that, lol). Meowzers (my cat) will sit at the door of the bathroom, but as soon as she gets a glimpse of him or smells him on me, she'll hiss. The dogs are afraid of him after he took a swipe at one of them, lol. I had both the kitten and my cat out in the main part of the apartment today, she was curious about him but any time he'd get close to her she'd hiss. At night we put him in the bathroom again, we also do this if we can't watch him or if we have to go somewhere.

I have a picture of him on my phone, I'll try to get it uploaded on here. He's adorable, a little brown tabby. We're keeping him for a week to make sure that he's healthy and nothing arises with him, then we're going to decide what to do with him - either rehome him or keep him ourselves. My boyfriend has been saying for the past few months that he wants a kitten when he moves out of the place he's in now, so he might take him.

The same day we found him, someone had come in asking us about a rescue for two dachshund puppies they had rescued from somewhere. My coworker was helping them and gave them some rescues. Thank god it wasn't me, dachshunds are my breed of dog and I would have taken them in a heartbeat. She didn't tell me until after they had been gone for about 20 minutes, lol. The boyfriend was annoyed enough about the kitten (he's fine now), two puppies he would have flipped!

Oh wow, he is SUCH a cutie!
He certainly looks older than 6 weeks from that picture though. Thank you for helping him!

The vet did say that he might be closer to the 8 week mark but said that he could be anywhere between 6-8 weeks. He was really quiet the first two days, now he's being all rambunctious and kitten like. He found a new favourite sleeping spot - on top of the towel bar. I have no idea how that's comfortable for him, but whatever, lol. He also really likes the sink.

I just fed him (he does get fed more than once a day, lol, a meal of wet in the morning, dry left out during the day and a meal of wet at night). I added lysine to his food today because he was starting to get some sniffles, usually sneezing about 5 times right when he wakes up but also a bit throughout the day. I put some in Meowzer's food as well, just incase.

He's being a little booger right now, running around and jumping all over the place. He's so freaking cute!

He loves to snuggle too, he'll fall asleep in my arms for hours and just purr. Then he wakes up and becomes demon kitten again. Maybe we'll name him Damien, lol.

Becoming demon kitten means he is feeling safe and healthy and happy!

Thanks so much for taking him in. He is a beautiful little kitten boy!

This little guy's background screams "keeper" to me
The fact that you hardly use that back door and the fact that your boyfriend wants to adopt a kitten =
, clearly.  No doubt about it.

He looks like a "Leo" to me.  But that's just me.

I hope and pray he will be a permanent member of your family.  Look forward to seeing growing pictures and progress reports.  You have been rewarded with a treasure!

He sure got put out at the right back door.  He is just a little sweetheart and it would be hard to part with him.  Good luck.

The reason that we were unsure of keeping him was that Meowzers (Leiki) has ALWAYS been an only cat and always seemed to have a big problem with other cats. The first couple of days that he was here, she'd growl and hiss if she smelt, saw or thought she saw him. She wouldn't eat any treats and didn't eat as much food as she had been, she was also spending more time in the bedroom than she normally did. The last two nights I've gone to bed before Mike and told him to make sure that if he went to the bathroom that he didn't let the kitten out because I didn't want something to happen while we were sleeping. Well he accidentally left the door open both nights and there was no bloodshed, lol, Meowzers still slept on the bed and I think the kitten just slept under the couch (that's his spot, lol). I just got home from work and brought him out, after a snuggle session he was back to demon kitteh again and ran right up to Meowzers and bopped noses with her... I was scared for a second until I realized there was no hissing or growling. Then he took off and she kind of followed. I decided to just sit back and watch to see what happened... he bopped noses with her again, then ran past her... and again... then she chased him a bit, turned and he chased her.. they were playing! It's been 15 minutes and they're still doing it! It's like hide and seek, lol.

Aw what a cutie!!!  It sounds like things are going well if they are playing like that together!  I hope you do keep him so we can see more pics!

I have found it much easier to introduce a young kitten into an established family than an older cat. When I had a rescue with 5 babies (she walked into my back door one day and 2 months later delivered the kittens), when I let the kittens out with my 5 mature cats, most of them loved the babies (once they figured out what they were . . .). In fact, one of my girls and my angel boy were very depressed after the kittens went to their forever homes.

Sounds like things are going well. Your Leiki may have to teach him some kitten manners, but it sounds good so far.

That's better than normal for a new cat intro, actually!  Usually, the "experts" say to take at least 2 weeks for intros, with the new cat in his or her own room and gradual intro sessions with the door cracked so the cats can sniff noses, see and smell each other, increasing this over time until they can be in the same room, and giving "time-outs" when they look like they're going to tangle, as most will.  I still occasionally have to give our newest family member time-outs in his own room when he gets a little too macho (he was an "only cat" for all of his 14 years; our family has been a lot for him to get used to! but he's really very good, considering) even though he's been with us over 3 years.  There's no question he is part of our family!  So patience and love will mean success for your family, too.  ;)

Thanks everyone! It is going really well, I'm so surprised. We were going to do slow intros but Mike kind of threw that out the window when he left the bathroom door open two nights in a row, lol.

I snapped this tonight, I wasn't sure if Leiki would eat with him there but she did!

Sorry it's sideways again, lol.
