My cat had his rabies shot along with another last Thursday. On the ride home he threw up and for the rest of the evening stayed in the same exact spot, refused to eat, and in general was not himself. I called the vet and they were ABLE to get me in the next day. The vet determined that Abraham had a reaction to the shot and in turn gave him a steroid injection. This dramatically changed his behavior for the better. By the way Abraham is appx. Two years old we adopted him last year from a shelter. The problem now is Abraham has been sneezing (for the past 2 days). I read online that this can be a reaction to the shot. Because I worry I brought Abraham in to the vet again today. He had a thorough examination including temperature and listened to lungs etc. The doc said he clearly does not have an infection and his lungs are as clear as can be. He did say the reaction could have caused inflammation of his nasal passage (I think that is what he said). He said sometimes when there is an allergic reaction and especially when a steroid is used this can happen. Has anyone had this issue? I am NEVER getting his shots again. He is an indoor cat ALWAYS. Will he snap out of this? He usually runs around like maniac, he has been a bit sedentary since the whole episode. Finally the vet did say this could be allergies as we just had a noreaster in Maine. He said that with all of the rain and pollen this could be causing the sneezing.

I have not had this issues with rabies shots or a steroid, but I do know that allergies are rampant this year.  Is Abraham any better today?  since the Vet mentioned that this could be from the steroid, did he say if it will go away on it's own?  What did he advise?

I am not a vet, but I do have a cat with allergies - likely seasonal because she overgrooms and has bald patches on her belly. We decided (since she eats well, is active, etc) to just treat the symptoms - and she gets 1/2 of a 75mg Zyrtec each morning. That has seemed to help her. Please don't do anything without checking with your vet. Cats can also have Benadryl, but I've not used it with mine and, again, check with your vet.

Good luck- hope things are better today.

The stress of going to the vet multiple times may have brought on a little upper respiratory infection.  Keep an eye on him and be sure he continues eating, drinking, and using the box.
