I foster cats & kittens for a local rescue, and today I got 3 orphan kittens. There was a litter of 6, but 3 have already crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Of the three, two looked healthy and one appears sickly. All three have been eating ok for me on KMR, I've had them almost 12 hours and am feeding every 2-3 hours.

One of the healthy looking kittens has had a bit of blood in his stool earlier, but now he is having a lot of blood in the stool. There is also more fecal matter than the other kittens are producing.

I've successfully hand-raised orphans in the past, but have never had a kitten with this problem. It is barely past midnight where I am, so getting hold of the rescue or a vet is not possible for about 7 or 8 hours.

I'm looking for information and advice- if anyone has dealt with this issue, I'd love to hear how you handled it, or if you know possible causes?

Thanks in advance!

The sickly kitten passed on today :(

The one I asked about is weaker than yesterday, but not as much blood in his stools today. I'm going to try Kitten Glop instead of KMR to see if that helps. Already gave benebac and some kitten vitamin supplement. Nothing the vet can really do with a kitten this young- I just have to hope for the best and do what I can.

I'm sorry to hear about your kittens passing away. I had two from my current foster litter that didn't make it, they passed away from coccidia at just about 4 weeks... it's very sad but I feel that it just wasn't meant to be. I don't have any guidance on the blood in the stool, but hopefully someone else does. I hope the other two make it! I know you're trying your hardest to save them!

With a little luck the weaking is "just" because of the blood loss.  I mean,  extra complications are not necessary to give this weaking, blood loss would cause it by itself... Lets hope the less blood means the positive turning  point had already come...

Good luck and a lot of *vibes*
