I hate my vet. He always wants me to leave my animals.

Does anyone else have this problem? We are new to the area and and I have never encountered this before. This vet always wants us to drop off the animal. I've had three different animals seen there for different reasons and they always want me to just drop them off. Even if I call in advance for an appointment they say, oh you can just come and drop him off that day.

One of my cats has been sitting at the vets for 5 hours now and they still have not seen him. I'm so frustrated. I didn't really want to drop him off, but it's a follow up visit and so the continuity of care was important to me. This is the last straw though. We live in a small town and there are only 2 vet practices. I guess I'll have to give the other place a try or drive into the city.

I've never heard of this (but I'm new to animals and vets.)  I'd hate it too.  Sounds like they are sacrificing animal well being and valuable face time with owners for fitting in as many appts as possible.  Plus, in this arrangement are you even there when your pet is examined?  You can gain valuable info and ask questions by being there.  I don't blame you for looking elsewhere.

Your cat probably hates your vet, too; it's incredibly stressful for animals to be in a strange environment, particularly without their safety net (that's you).

I'd go elsewhere.

Well I called the only other vet in town and made an appointment with them for the follow up and then I called my current vet and told them to not bother with the tests and I was coming to pick him up. When I got there the vet apologized, said they did the tests and they wouldn't charge me. I told him I'm frustrated because I can never get an appointment, they always tell me I can just drop them off and I'm not comfortable with leaving them there all day long.

Anyway, the staff there are nice people but I am not happy with their business practice as far as drop offs so I won't be going back.

Oh boy do I hear you--this type of "practice" would not be tolerated by me with my kitties. I don't even let them take mine to the backroom from the little room we are in; if they have something to do, they can do it in front of me, or give me a darn good explanation.

Good for you standing your ground and contacting the other vet practice in your town. If it was me, I would visit the new vet to get acquainted a bit before an actual appointment--if at all possible.

I live in a small rural area with limited vets around here, so I know exactly how this feels.

and good wishes coming your way. Do let us know how it goes.

Weird.  We do quite a few drop off appointments - if the owner works and doesn't have time for an appointment, if we're booked solid but need to squeeze a patient in, and most commonly to collect urine from cats. But we don't suggest to everyone "hey, just drop them off!" lol that doesn't make sense. Doesn't make sense for the owner and I don't know why a practice would WANT to do that, since it gets very hectic trying to finish drop off appointments + all the regularly scheduled appointments.

Maybe they just think you want a same day appointment, but they don't have an opening. I don't know. Next time they suggest a drop off I'd just politely tell them no, you'd rather schedule an appointment for X day at Y time.

Thanks, it is frustrating having limited options, in town.

I understand it under those conditions, but they have done this to me every time, even when I was a first time client after we first moved here and I'd never even been there. That time I put my foot down and insisted on an appointment.

I'm done with them, I am going to give the other vet in town a chance and if I'm not happy there I'll just be forced to drive into the city.

I have been on 100's of appointments(Yes really....)-most booked a day or two in advance but some as hey my cats sick can I get in today.  I also have used a few clinics as Have moved too far to go to the old ones and NEVER had this happen.

Where I am now it takes awhile to discharge a cat so seems it would waste time.  And all those cats sitting sneezing and breathing with cats who may be perfectly healthy seems to be setting up for bigger issues.

Even when fully booked I have been told to come in and I will have to wait but will be seen within hour or so but I know it will be hectic and I fully understand that and appreciate them getting me in vs going to the er vet where its ALOT to just walk in and kinda far.

Good luck with the new vet!

Gosh, I have never heard of this before :dk: Of course, I have never lived in such a rural area either. But I honestly, would not want to just drop my cat's off for a vet check for any reason. It is stressful enough just getting them to the vet, but having to leave them there and wait to be examined :nervous:. AND, what about the "other" sick cats that your cat is being exposed to while waiting for a turn to be checked. That is just wrong IMO. Rural or not.... I really hope that you have better luck with the other vet. If not, I do know many people who drive many miles for a good, quality, understanding vet for your babies and one you can trust. I would want to be present also when my furbabies are being checked out to explain exactly what has been going on. Mega vibes for your kitty :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
