Hi my name is rob and i am a cat lover and lover of alll animals .I belong to many forums but i figured i owe it to my cats to join.Main reason i am posting today is my cats paws pad is all red and raw.He limps on it and i know it hurts like hell.Last year this happened over the winter and healedl. This year it hasent.1st of all this is not my cat he belongs to a neighbor, not sure what one. However i dont want that to be the focus of the discussion. He stays at my house all the time.I leave my window open for him to come in and out year round to eat, sleep, whatever. He went from being a neighbor hood cat i couldnt get near to a affectionate cat who has become my best friend.

A few questions i do have is....

1st Can i treat this myself?

2nd If i do bring him to the vet,how much would this cost to fix & treat?

3rd Should i bring him to the vet even though he isnt my cat?

I care verry much for this cat and want to whats best, even if i dont know who he really belongs to.He comes to my house to sleep, eat, play with the wild animals, and for general care and brushing.

Thank you all very much.I'm sure it will be my pleasure to get to know you and to learn and share with you about the wonderful world of pets

Rob

In your place, caring about the cat and enjoying his company, knowing his paw hurts like hell, I would take him to the vet. We can't tell from a photograph if we are seeing frostbite, infection, inflammation, etc. Vet charges vary throughout the U.S., and I'm assuming that is where you live? My vet charges about $50 for a full examination. You might be able to find low-cost veterinary clinics in your area.
