Hi everyone,

Sorry to just be joining when I have a question, but I'm a little concerned about the younger of my two cats.  My wife and I were out of town for about 24 hours this weekend, and when we returned, we found that our just-a-few-days-over-1 year old cat, Marie, has red and slightly inflammed lips on one side of her mouth.  It doesn't seem to bother her at all, but it's something different, and so is worrisome.

Now, she's definitely a squirmer, so it was hard to get a good picture of the condition, but you can sort of see it here: http://yfrog.com/jvcwlmj.  I've spent some time looking around online, and nothing seems to match it.

Anyone have any idea what this is, or more importantly, how serious?  We can't get to the vet until Tuesday morning, unless we go to an emergency center.

We often have new members come in when they need help, and that's what we're here for.  Welcome to TCS!

Is it possible your cat got into something, like a chemical (house cleaning supplies are often the culprit) while you were gone.  How about chewing into an electrical cord?

There's no place like home
Could be that he chewed something, or it could be something like rodent ulcer. If rodent ulcer, the vet will most likely prescribe antibiotics and possibly steroids to keep the swelling down. I have a boy with chronic rodent ulcer and the best way I control it is by sterilizing food bowls on a regular basis and never use any plastic bowls. Stainless steel bowls seem to work the best.
