I have approximately 22-25 cats that need rescued in Ritchie County WV that I figure have a pretty good chance of being diseased. The owner has died and these cats are very skinny and I doubt that they have been spayed or neutered.  We have contacted the humane society in this county but they refuse to help these poor creatures.  Can anyone please give me any ideas of what to do???

The Humane Society refused to help?  That's odd.  Are these cats ferals?  You said they had an owner, which makes me think they are NOT feral,  What reason did the Humane Society give for not helping?  Did you check to see if there are other animal rescue groups in your area?  What makes you think they are diseased?

I am sorry about this and I am just seeing this thread today. Sorry. I would suggest you try to find a Trap-Neuter-Return Organization in your county.. Search TNR in your county and you may have to extend the search. I am sure one of them will offer assistance to such an alarming number of cats in need. Poor babies. Thank you for coming onto TCS looking for help. Please let us know what happens. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

The problem is that it's WV. Living in WV also, I know that TNR isn't well known. I don't know of any TNR Organizations in my part of WV. In fact, animal laws aren't really a big thing here. I started researching them after a few fiascos with my local shelter, whom I refuse to support now?

Are there any updates, since this thread is two weeks old?

I live 5 hours away from Ritchie County, or else I'd help take them in, and ask the rescue that I adopted my cat from if they'd help.

That is a tough situation without a TNR organization or rescue willing to help in your area. What about calling some vets to see if anyone will step up and help with spays/neuters? Also, here is one resource for low cost clinics and will try to find some others. http://www.thecatsite.com/t/203204/list-of-low-cost-free-spay-neuter-clinics-in-the-us That would break my heart too. Mega vibes for these cats. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Here are some in WV... and certainly if they cannot assist, they will direct you :cross:
