My Sallie Mae had a litter on Easter and there were 5 kittens. Two what I call Calico they were black with brown and white spots. Someone called them a tortie. I had two classic Grey tabby and an orange one. I went to work last night all 5 were fine. I was running late to work this morning and when I came home from he meeting I checked and Sallie was meowing like crazy and I saw both were gone. I removed them, but I have no idea what happened. My husband was here and he said he checked on them before he went to bed last night. Does anyone know why after almost 2 weeks they would have died? I called the vet no answer yet. There was blood on the bedding and I changed the bedding.

Were you checking their weights every day? Sometimes momma is not producing enough milk to supply the entire litter or the weaker ones get pushed away by the stronger babes. If you haven't been weighing them, try getting a digital scale that weighs in grams or 1/4 ounces and weigh them every day at the same time. If they're gaining 10-20 grams a day then they're doing great, if not then you may need to start supplementing with Kitten Replacement Milk. Other than that, sometimes there's just things wrong with the kittens that we can never really know for sure. I'm so sorry for your loss and hoping that all of the other kittens stay healthy

It's possible mama accidentally laid on them and smothered them.  It happens.

I was thinking the same thing, with 2 dying at once on you so suddenly. They could have suffered from fading kitten syndrome where there is no particular reason for a kitten to suddenly fail and die, and I have had kittens fade away in a matter of hours before. But sometimes we just don't k ow what went wrong. I'm sorry for your loss, the rest of the kittens should be just fine though. I would go back to wieghing them just to make sure that mom is not having any trouble producing milk.

I'm sorry love, I know how sad you must be feeling.

Sometimes Mother Nature just knows to take the weak ones early so they don't suffer in later life - doesn't make it any easier though

thank you guys. We have gone  back to weighing them. Sallie wont leave the kittens now. She is always with them she had just started leaving them for an hour or so and now she will only leave to eat or go tot he restroom like when they were first born. I know she is effected by the kittens gone. We try comforting her and everything.
