I agree with JCAT. The most common reason for inappropriate peeing is a health issue. He needs a vet appointment.

You must also thoroughly clean the areas that he peed on using a cleaner that will neutralize the urine. Regular cleaners only mask the smell to you, but your cat will be able to still smell it and will return to that area again and again. Use products like Nok Out, Anti Icky Poo, Urine Gone, etc. Nature's Miracle is sold at stores like Petsmart, but members here don't always have good luck with it. You must saturate the area completely (thru the cushions) and repeat the treatment as necessary.

Hi catprix35
So sorry you are having to deal with this issue.  I had exactly the same problem with my male cat, Ramsey.  First off, you will have to determine if the cat is actually peeing or spraying.  There is a difference between the two.  Then a vet visit is in order to determine if there is a medical issue causing this problem.  If it is not medical then you might have a behavioral problem on your hands.  Ramsey had a behavioral issue and so I had to try and figure out why he was doing this.  He started doing this out of the blue too.  He had previously used the litter boxes just fine. I started eliminating possible reasons.  I have plenty of litter boxes for my 4 cats and keep them clean so that was not a problem.  No changes in diet, home or routine that I could see.  Seems like nothing had changed.  It seemed like he always did it when I was out with the dog first thing in the morning.  I tried everything including aluminum foil on the sofa and also moving a litter box onto the sofa.  Nothing worked.  In desperation I bought a Feliway diffuser and changed my morning routine slightly.  Before walking the dog, I make sure Ramsey gets some attention first.  Even if it is just a quick pet and ear scratch for a couple of minutes.  Then I take the dog out.  He stopped peeing on the sofa completely in about 3 weeks.

I am not exactly positive what worked, the slight change in routine or the Feliway, or, a combination of the two.  What I do know is that when the Feliway runs out, his behavior begins to change.  When I put in a new refill he is back to the sweet boy we all love
I do know I will never be without the Feliway again.
