Tuesday morning I fed Buddy, he threw up immediately after eating his usual 1/2 can of food.  I  noticed on Tuesday evening Buddy had been licking his calming collar like crazy, it had been on his for approx. 2 1/2 weeks  He proceeded to lick the collar over the next couple of days  and continued to vomit.  I found the chewed off collar on the floor yesterday at 5pm.  Last night around 8pm I fed him, he ate but threw up again.  Today he will not eat and is a little more tired then he has been.

For those who know his story, Buddy jumped the gate from the laundry room into the house on Monday!  So much for getting him used to being in the house one room at a time......he spent the entire day Monday in my dining room under the table and chair and stayed there until the next day.  I finally coaxed him out Tuesday with catnip (fresh from plant) and his Bella (laser toy).  Took 4 hours.......my 15 year old pom wants to kill him and eat his food.......

Sorry, not sure if your question is about how to integrate your new(?) cat, Buddy, with a 15 year old dog, or what might be causing him to throw up, or what?

If it's about him throwing up after each meal...is he eating the same thing he ate before you got him?  He IS new to you, right?  I'm thinking maybe you've had him just a couple of weeks?  Did the throwing up just start happening when you noticed him licking the calming collar?  Did you contact the Vet to see if there are those type of side effects from calming collars?

Again, sorry, but still not sure of the entire story here.  (but sounds like if your Pom is wanting to kill Buddy, maybe they BOTH need calming collars

As far as the integration goes. you can always put up two gates, one on top of the other, can't you .  It's a pain when you need to get into the laundry room, but at least Buddy will be safe.  Is Buddy's food up on the washer or dryer where the dog can't reach it anyway?

I got a lot going on here!

Sorry, I didn't realize how badly that read!  Buddy's story is in new cats on the block.......he isn't really that new!  For the sake of catch up.....he was a free roaming cat I rescued from a certain fate last November.  got him to the vet and found out he was very sick, took from Nov thru Jan to get him better.  during that time he was in my garage in a cat crate with blankets and floor heaters as he was extremely contagious.  i was told by the vet to introduce him to my house (I have a very large open floor plan with high cathedral ceilings) and my dog very slowly....she and i made a plan.  I have no intention of putting him outside, as we have a plethora of dangerous wild life where I live....coyote, bear, cougar etc First move was to my sun room in the crate.  We chose this room first because it has a full view of most of the downstairs, he stayed there for about 6 weeks....next I cleared out the laundry room and made it his room so now he was out of the crate finally!  I put aluminum foil and sticky side tape every where....lol.....followed by the calming collar, feliway spray and diffusers.  once he was comfortable there I put 3 gates one on top of the other so he could have more room.  Doing this gave him the bathroom, the vestibule and laundry room to kinda roam in.  I used 3 baby gates one on top of the other (those high ceilings) to keep him separate from the house and the dog.  This worked really well for a while and gave him a new perspective on the house, he could see more of the house.  He and the pom would look at each other through the gate but I didn't think she would do anything to him cause it would appear she had no interest.....how wrong I was!

Easter Sunday I had a full house of family & had to gate him back in the laundry room because 2 of my family members are handicap and couldn't climb the stairs to the upstairs bathroom.  Once they left I once again gave him the full area.  The next morning we found him roaming the house....once he saw us he immediately started to climb up the gates and into the laundry room......he now knows how to get out!  I thought putting him in the sun room again, this time without the gate was a good idea so I bought 2 cans of the SSSCAT to try to keep him in the sun room and started to move "his things" in preparation......that did not work out.  I guess he got nervous watching me move his things because in one leap he was over those gates........Now he is in the house, which is fine.  SSSCAT did not keep him in one room.  Since he has been out my dog is running at him barking her head off, she has not growled or been aggressive I just think she is jealous and wants his stinky food.  He sees her and crouches down behind a wall and jumps out at her.....he stares at her which makes her bark at him and run at him.........

PHEW!  I have always fed him fancy feast varieties and every so often whiskas he will only eat a pate type.  I noticed he was licking at his collar last couple of days, so made it a smitdge tighter well he must have slipped his paw through and started to lick it again......Tuesday He started throwing up directly after he ate.  Last night at about 5:00 ish I saw the collar on the floor.  i picked it up of course lol......i fed him about 8ish and again he threw up.  I called Sentry to find out if there is any toxicity associated with the collar and there is none.  They thought maybe he swallowed some of it, in which case I need to take him to the vet.  I called and could only get an appointment for tomorrow at 2:30....Today he has not eaten at all and is very tired.  Do you think it's ok to wait til tomorrow?  Is there anything i can do for now until i get him in there?  i did offer him food, and he seemed to want it but wouldn't eat it.  I can't take him to emergency vet as they are rapists and do unnecessary procedures for top dollar.....and i can't trust them to do the right thing either....sorry but i have walked that road twice already.

What i can't be certain of is if this is due to a foreign object in his tummy or stress.....

Hope that was better and not long winded....lol

In your place, and if I couldn't take him to an emergency vet, I'd drop him off at the vet first thing in the morning and ask them to take a look at him as soon as possible. This works at my vet's office, and hopefully yours. They can check him out between other appointments, or between surgeries.

I would also call your vet in the morning and see if you can't drop him off in the morning.

A word about your pom... I just wanted to mention that I have two dachshunds and my cat. The dogs will bark and chase her quite a bit but never hurt her, in return she will stare at them until they chase her, or jump out at them/swat them when they walk by to start it. In my case, it's pretty clear that they're playing. As long as your cat has a place to get away from your dog, they'll work it out :)

Any news on Buddy?  And now that I know the story, I don't really think your Pom is trying to kill him, sounds like just play to me, and I think Buddy should be able to escape an old dog pretty easily, just by jumping UP

I don't know if you have a tall cat tree but I think it would be a big help if Buddy had one. It would give him his own piece of furniture and would give him a place  to hang and watch the dog and vice versa. Also, if you go to sam's club or costco, I suggest you take some of those cardboard boxes that are U shaped on one side, turn them upside down and give Buddy a few caves that are on the edges of family rooms and out of sight of the dog, where he can lurk and comfortably observe what is happening. You probably want to cut a U on the back of the box too so he has an escape route if the dog finds him.

With the collar, it sounds like he is pretty sensitive and I would not put anything on him at this point.

I know what you mean about the emergency vets, they will do every possible test at top dollar and the off-hours crew are usually inexperienced jerks, at least where I live. I think you are in the best position to judge whether his condition merits the visit.

Some varieties of fancy feast are more likely to cause vomiting than others. It is a pretty rich cat food. I recommend you introduce natural balance wet food and put a little bit of fancy feast on top of it. Natural balance has a good texture that is similar to fancy feast classic variety, and is available at PetCo.
