A few months back I accidently left the Da Bird out and one of the kittens had a field day and chewed up the feathers and ate the string!!

The site I was ordering the refills from seems to be down, so I finally spent some time in Google and found a place that would mail to Canada.

Da Bird arrived yesterday and I picked up the parcel today.

Spencer and Katie knew what was in the box before I even opened it. Both of them were milling around and meowing at me to hurry up, and as soon as I had the plastic package out of the box, not even opened, Spencer was up and trying to grab it from me!!!

Needless to say they both had a good work out!

I ordered 2 additional ones too.  2 girls that sit near me have cats (Shorty and Patrick), so I bought each of their kitties one too.  Plus I bought myself extra refills.

haha, I was just about to send this post when I heard noises from beside the couch.  Spencer got hold of one of the extra Da Bird packages, and was merrily ripping at the plastic to get it out!  Nice hole in the package now.  hehe

Aww!  Noodles will walk off with it if I let her!  She has a strong grip with her jaw! I've been afraid she will break it she is so intent on not letting go!

We were on a waiting list since September and I thought I might get them by Christmas... It wasn't until the day before Valentines Day that it finally arrived!!

There aren't any stores in Canada tha sell it, at least I've never been able to find one.  The only place I did find was online but now they don't seem to be in business anymore.  Now there is this place.  Postage can be a bit pricey because I think it goes by dollar value sold, which is silly.  But I'm willing to pay it because it's something that I want for my cats, because it's their favourite toy.

I guess if I want it bad enough (even though its not for me, lol), I will have to pay the extra shipping. It's really a hard toy to find up here. Boo!

  Another convert!

When I ordered my replacement Da Bird, I ordered one for 2 of the girls I work with.  One is on holidays so she will get it on Monday.  The other one took it home yesterday for her cat Patrick.

She had kept telling me that buying it would be a waste of money and that her cat wouldn't play with it (he's 2 years). I countered that I'd never heard of a cat not liking the toy and gave her fair warning that Patrick would become addicted to it and behave completely psycho when the toy was out.

I called it!!!!!!!!!!

Today she said that he was meowing as soon as he saw the toy. He was leaping and jumping, and was so rough and tumble that he already broke one of the feathers (she stuffed it back in).

I had told her that when she finished playing that she needed to put the toy high up behind a locked door otherwise he would find a way to get it.  She said that after play time was over, she put it on a very high bookcase.  She said she left the room and when she came back he was hanging off the top with his front paws!!!!

The toy was a hit..... as I knew it would be!  hehe

Oh my...I was going to start a thread about Da Bird and happened upon this one.

My experience with my three was Da Bomb!
I will say that my Maine Coon, Maxie, was a bit reserved at first, being my "contemplative" kitty, but after a couple days HE was into it big 'n bad--swatting and leaping into the air to "catch" his prey and trilling away. And what a hoot to hear my quiet little Izzy chatter at it, leap and grab a hold and then take off with it giving the boys a growl if they got too close (she's half Abby's size and one third Maxie's size--so quite funny to watch). Abby, my oldest at almost 16 was leaping off the floor and the most interested of all of them at first--now all three join in the fun. Abby is the only one that is declawed (front, before I knew better), so he will grab that bird and hold on with his arms and beat the heck out of it with his back legs, and do some chewing just for good measure.

I do let them "catch" it so they don't get discouraged.

After less than two days all I had to say was, "Birdie!!", and all three come running--way too cute.

I also bought three different refills (one each of feather (6") [looks like ostrich plume], fur (4"), and mylar toy (7")), so I'm going to try those out to see if they're as interested in those as they are the feathers.

I got Da Bird because Abby tends to be quite clingy at times, so a little fun to distract him and all is good. I do try to time it so he doesn't associate his clingy-ness with me getting Da Birdie out, because I don't want to reinforce that behavior. Plus, he needs more stimulation in his life (as the other two do too).

And for Izzy because she's turned into a rolly-polly little tub, so the exercise will do her good. Even on a raw diet she has put on weight over the years, which I think goes back to her feral instincts and being so small and not knowing when or if she would get another meal. She's also my little mousie eater when I order mice from Rodent Pro. Good girl!

For Maxie...just for the sheer, amazing fun of it to get his MC energy out.

So there ya have it, after a couple weeks, the four of us are very happy with "Birdie."

Mine know the name "Birdie" too!  It is cute when they come running!  Also, I hid it when they weren't around, but they know where it is. It's uncanny how they can find it behind a closed door.

Oh my yes; most definitely have to hide it!
Once I didn't have it hidden too well and had three kitties of various sizes lined up looking up at where I "hid" Birdie. I could just see their little minds wondering who would be the first to try and jump up and grab it. Too stinkin' cute for words.
