Hair ball medicine?

What is the best hair ball medicine I can for Midnight? He is a long hair cat and has a ton of fur.

None of my cats had a problem with hair balls until now. Midnight almost died coughing up a hair ball this morning. It would have to be something he would think is a treat. It's very very hard to get Midnight to take meds. Even the vet techs have trouble with him rolleyes.gif

I just bought the gooey brown paste from the pet store. I've been giving it to Parker as directed and he hasn't coughed up a hairball in almost 5 months. That's a record for him! It used to be 2-3 times a week, lol.

He HATED it at first. Was scared of it, in fact..but started liking it randomly. Before he'd take it willingly, I used to just smear it all over his paw and he'd lick it off himself. Not sure if any particular brand is better than another as I've only used two (one from the vet and this store bought stuff) and both work just the same.

On a side note, if you put it on his paw, make sure you rub in a little, if you can. I've had a glob of it hit me from across the room when I just put it on a paw and didn't smear it.

I am not sure if its available in stores down there, but the stuff I got is called "le salon Hairball Paste".
You can get it through Amazon for like $7. There are other brands at Petsmart, like Laxatone. (Has way more ingredients than the le salon stuff though.)

Try something like Vet's Best Hairball Relief. Doesn't contain petroleum by-products like so many other hairball products (which aren't healthy for long-term consumption as they can interfere with nutrient absorption).

I have seen it in stores, yes. Not sure where you live, but there's a store locator here (although it's not complete as I've seen it at places not listed): http://www.vetsbest.com/where-to-buy.php
