Hello people.

I joined this forum in order to get some advice on caring for my cat named "Artemis".

I rescued him from the streets when he was very little (probably a few weeks old), and now he is all grown up and very active.

I've taken care of many cats in my life, but i would like to hear from your words to make a better life for my cat and myself.

Most of my problems at the moment are:

* stray cat eating my cat's food while i'm at school

* lots of hair shedding on.. everywhere

* he is not aggressive but when we play he loves to bite my hand

I really would appreciate your words, and i'll probably ask in the proper channels for advice.

For the time being, i am a bit happy to join this community.

Regards from Baja California, Mexico.

Welcome to you and Artemis!

I'm not sure how to help with the stray eating Artemis' food.  Is he indoor/outdoor?  Are you feeding Aretmis inside and the stray is coming in through a cat door or something like that?  A good place for more help would probably be our Caring for Strays and Ferals Forum: http://www.thecatsite.com/f/9/caring-for-strays-and-ferals.  If you can post your question there with a little more information I think more people who can help will see it.

The only way I've found to combat shedding is with a GOOD brush.  And brushing regularly.  Especially in the spring with all the shedding that goes on.  But I am in a different climate than you.  The best brush I have found is The Furminator.  It's pricy; but works like no other ones I have found.  If you shop around online you might find a deal; which is what I did.  There is also a section for Grooming here: http://www.thecatsite.com/f/6/care-grooming   This is the Furminator company website: http://www.furminator.com/.  I believe the one I use is the larger cat one.  I've had mine several years now and I think it was marketed as a smaller one for dogs; but it was bigger than the cat one.  It looks like they have more options now.

A lot of cats like to play bite when they are playing; but some more than others.  I've always tried to discourage my kitties from kitten hood when they do that.  Usually the play just stops when they bite.  They either get the point or not.  Sometimes I'll just move on to a different way of playing.  My one cat Noodles will nip you just because.  Never hard enough to break my skin; but just showing her attitude!  The folks who hang around the Behavior Forum can help more with this one too. http://www.thecatsite.com/f/5/behavior

I hope that helps answer some of your questions.  But do check out the other sections here for more advice!  If you need any help with the site or getting around; feel free to click on my username and send me a private message.  I'd be glad to help!

I appreciate your kind words and welcome.

I've been taking care of cats for some time and it's nice to find a place to share and look for advice.

I'll be browsing the sections soon to see what there is to do and read.

Quick comment: there are a LOT of cats in my neighborhood. I can see a few sleeping in the neighbors lawn or sometimes walking around in the fences.

It's an interesting place to live. Artemis is new in town, so he probably is getting around.

For anyone interested in learning spanish, feel free to start a conversation up too. "Se habla espanol!"

No habla espanol here.  I joke that it was my way of rebelling in high school (my step-dad and step-family are fluent).  I do know we have some Spanish speaking members though!

Good luck with Artemis and the other kitties!
