I bought a eight week old kitten last Friday. He has turned this household upside down.

Just think one little spitfire in charge.

This will be cat number sixteen, nine in this household. So I am not a newcomer to cat friendships. Kittens, to me, are a lot more work than a cat

While I don't believe totally the same as everyone here. I do intend to use much of what I learned here.

I been finding it hard to find a can kitten food. Don't they make it for the vitamins kittens need to grow up strong and healthy?

I threw some names at him He liked Cowboy. Scared me a bit, for he was stuck on Cowboy Jason at first. That was a bit long to me. Longer than he was. Yesterday I called Cowboy! He came running. Good... shorter.

I will have picture next week some time. Nothing cuter than a eight week old kitten growing.Even if he is just an old brown tabby.

Jill.

I didn't think there was a big selection of kitten can food when I was looking for Luna & Midnight. I bought them at Pet Smart, Petco and Target.

The brands I found of specific canned kitten foods are Iams, Fancy Feast, Nutro, and I think Pro Plan. None are super high-quality but the kitten foods are better than the adult foods. A lot of the higher-quality canned foods are suitable for cats and kittens. But I don't know where you live so I don't know which foods are available there?

We need pictures! And I love his name. Where did you buy him?

As someone who has a young kitten right now. Wellness does have a kitten formula, also as someone else mentioned Pro Plan does. I tried both and Babykins didn't really care for either. I switched him over the the For All Ages Blue Buffalo and he is doing fine on it. Weight gain is right on target, coat and engery are great.

I bought Iams, he didn't like it so well. Fancy Feast kitten was the winner here. BUT why not make quality food for kittens or some kind of suppliment. Isn't the first year the most important?

I bought Cowboy from a local pet store. I buy my food and stuff from locally owned stores. They are the heart and soul of our country. So I stick by them. He came with his own food, Holistic Selent, can and dry. He don't like it. The kibbles were so big the kitten couldn't get his teeth to work on it. In dry food I tried, whiskas. The kibbles were super small. He can be on something better now, like Iams for kittens. I worry about sugar in Purina products.

Gee I think I should have put this in nutrition forum. I thought it was going to be a intro. instead it is about kitten food or lack there of.

Jill.

Wellness does have a kitten formula, but in my experience, it makes their poops VERY stinky!!  LOL

We fed Tumbles EVO cat/kitten food while he was a kitten.

Oh I totally agree with this statement. I did not know something so small could smell so bad. It was def the Wellness, once I switched he was fine.

Hummm, with nine cats this place stinks bad enough. I have three litterpans in the living room. Plus three in their room and one in the bathroom, Just in case someone has to go when I do.

When Cowboy was first brought home, nobody wanted anything to do with him. Except Meuzette. But she is so old and scary looking. Cowboy was afraid of her. But she made him feel at home until the rest were able to take over.

Now a week later everybody is playing. Only one still growls. But Ray, my black, always does. I don't know why some cats do that. Growl and hiss at others if they get to close.

Anyway I should be able to post pictures later on today. He isn't anything special. I picked him out from seven siblings. Because he was the only one siiting on a perch in the cage with his front feet tucked under him. I thought if he can be content in this situation Then he is a pretty steady guy.

Believe it or not but Pet'sMart or Petsmart brand Sofisticat has a higher fat content than every other brand there (Canned kitten food). But Royal Canin dry feed is awsome for nutrition and canned food is not really needed, but for training and a treat.

"needed" is a subjective term.

Petsmart doesn't make Sophistacat anymore. Theirr brand is now called Grreat Choice, and the quality of the ingredients has declined (now contains food coloring and other changes). I didn't check the fat level, though.

I guess "needed" is a subjective term. Many people do believe that cats need wet food for optimum health. You could say it's not needed because they won't die if they only eat dry food, but chronic dehydration can lead to some nasty diseases. But wet food certainly serves more of a purpose than simply being a treat.

Trader Joe's brand has kitten canned food. I am not sure of its quality as I have never looked. The adult formula is healthy, I would think kitten is too

There is no such thing as an old brown tabby! Mollipop (our little brown tabby) would not be amused at hearing that, you know.

Congratulations! Cowboy is an adorable addition to the family!

Some would like a more colorful kitten. To me, he is striking with his black tab marks. His coat is mostly sliver with a hint of brown so he looks bronze. Should have named him Oscar since he is a bronze statuette.

Cowboy has a year to develop. Hope I do him justice on helping him
