So our wonderful cat Sallie had a litter of 5 kittens yesterday. Sallie is doing great. She lays on them but moves around if the squeak and we are avoiding touching them so not too have too much human contact for now. I have only touched to changed the bedding.  Sallie came with our house apparently. We brought our house in January and moved into the house in February and she came in the same day we moved in and hasn't left. The previous owners are in Japan so we believe she might have been theirs because there is a cat flap. I took her to the Vet when we decided she was going to stay which was March and found out she was expecting probably came to us pregnant, so there you have it we have a cat with a litter and she will get fixed when she can. So I don't need anything about being irresponsible. But she had her litter and being a good momma seems healthy and happy taking to vet tomorrow. All days Easter she had them. LOL! So the first born we already named Easter. We have two dogs, a lab and Yorkie, but being Easter my sister in law had brought her Yorkie as she always does when she visits. Well I go in and she charged at the visiting Yorkie, but allowed her brother Yorkie ( my dog) in and my lab in. Is that normal? She did not hiss or swat but she never liked this Yorkie, her first meeting was Valentine's day, and then St. Patrick's day, and the last time spring break.  She let the children in but we didn't let them touch as well. I was wondering if I should be worried about the laying on the kittens. I read some of the forms discussion on this, but I saw some say it killed and some not. She is an attentive mother. She has the run of our huge bathroom with two walk in closets. She delivered in one of the closes ts and the whole bathroom is hers to roam without worry so she can get a break when she needs and her litter, food, and water was moved into the bathroom. She is eating fine even her can food just fine. So I was just wondering if I should not even worry? Also if charging a dog and not letting it pass normal as well? She has always been sweet, loving, attentive, and great since she joined us.

Attacking a foreing dog, but not well known, friendly dogs, is normal.

Lying on kittens not recommendable, but as they apparently manage this well...  I wonder though, how is the temperature at your place? she perhaps thinks it is too cold?

Why are you taking her to the vet tomorrow?  If everything OK it shouldnt be necessary.  a little later, for suitable vaccinating, spaying etc.  Although contact the vet and agree on suitable deworming.

Cats who are allowed to go out, should be dewormed and so their kittens, roundworms can go over with moms milk.

You should weigh them every day, so you see the changes in weigh.  Use a kitchen scale in grams or 1/10 oz, depending on where you live.

So you must touch them yyes.  She probably wont protest if you do it carefully. but of course, if she protests too much, dont.

The not touching is excellent to tell to small children.  With careful grown ups?

Freshy catched semiferales may be tricky yes.  They must land first.

But yours is more or less a home cat.

Of course, dont stress her, so good no foreign children are in the home now.

Welcome!

Good luck!   *vibes*

Thank you very much! I am taking her to the vet because the vet recommended with her being a stray to come in check her out and diseases and illnesses that could be present since she was a stray and we never kept her locked inside or outside. She is dewormed and rabies shot. I will weigh them now and keep doing that daily. She protested my husband touching them yesterday so we waited and she did not protest my touching them this morning to change the bedding. The temperature is about 85 degrees in the closet and she has towels and blankets to help. We check on her but let her be for the most part. Trying not to stress her to much because I read that won't be good.

Aww you have Easter kittens too! Yeah handling the kittens a bit as long as mom is comfortable with it is good. If she does not like it she will let you know, but as she is familiar with you she should not mind it, as long as you do it respectfully. I never take the kittens out of moms sight and the fact that they are returned safely every time is reassuring to mom. I have had one momma cat once who every day when I weighed the kittens she would watch me weigh them, I would hold them out to her after I was done and then take them back to the nest herself.

I don't see why you need to rush to the vet, it is stressful on mom to go to the vet with her kittens. I avoid taking mother cats to the vet unless it is necessary. As long as everything is going well there is no need to rush to the vet, you could wait until the kittens are older.

Yes I saw one of your momma's had babies.  She only leaves the kittens when we come check on her. We come in to use the bathroom, get stuff or pet her and she will then get out of the box and eat, drink, use the litter box, come to us to get petted. My husband says we are babysitters since she doesn't leave unless we are there. LOL! The first 24 hours she gently nudged our hands when the headed to her babies to pet her instead and that was fine we knew she was not wanting us to pet them or mess with them. Now she is fine with it thou we still don't much. She gets our attention still even the kids come in to pet her and her only.

This is Easter. He is the most venturous so far

This is OJ, but I want Crook-shanks, but OJ stays. He is the most vocal.
