I woke up this morning and Lily was squinting her right eye. Every time I tried to look at it, she acted like it was okay so finally I asked my husband to hold her so I could look, and I saw it had been weeping (watery) a little. I tried calling my vet but they are closed today for the holiday.

She had a nap and is still squinty and has a little white goop which I wiped away.

It does not seem to be an emergency (yet) to take her to the animal hospital, which is going to be insanely busy today with the vets all closed today for holiday, and after a 3-day weekend!

Does anybody have advice to help with this, at least until I can get her to our vet? I doubt they will see her tomorrow, even, probably Wednesday at the earliest!

She is an indoor kitty, but our (indoor/outdoor) kitty Sparkle had a spat with her yesterday. That was very unusual and I didn't see it, but my husband said Lily cornered Sparkle and Sparkle lashed out at her. We didn't think there was contact but I don't what else could have caused this.

Any advice is appreciated!

Unless you examine her eyeball and see an actual scratch, I would not mess with it, nor wipe it, it's quite likely that Sparkle's swat caused this.

You can give it a couple days, it should start to improve, if in any way it gets worse looking then I would advise a vet visit, but the watering is a natural response in her body's healing it quickly.

So don't fret, just keep an eye on it, it should clear up on it's own in a few days.

If you decide to go to the vet, he will likely give you Terramycin ointment to protect from bacteria.

You can apply a warm compress to it, but don't wipe it or rub it.
