I am not a "Cat" person but do own 3 cats, I own a ranch. Anyhow, I have one cat that is definately a "Tabby" but she is a mix of two colors, orange and gray stripes. is this normal or rare??? Thanks for your answers. :)

I believe it's a form of tortoiseshell/calico. I think that pattern is usually called "torbie", although that's not officially a cat color/pattern name. I don't think it's too rare. . .my mom has one like that.

Pictures would help but it sounds like a blue tortie tabby (usually with white)

I can't speak for the OP's cat, but that's not how I would describe my mom's kitty. She's a plain brown tabby, but with red blotches very well mixed into her fur. Not defined patches. No white. When she was a baby her red areas weren't obvious; the only sign she wasn't fully tabby was a small cream spot on one foot. I'll try to get pictures.

Excuse the poor quality. . .I just took these pics of Mimi in the basement with my cell phone, LOL.

In this one, you can see her "tortie paw":

This one shows her back end with most of the red:

And a full body shot, even though you can't see the red well in the pic:

^That's a brown (black) tortie tabby.

The OP's title has 2 color errors so without a pic we don't really know if they mean a black & red tortie tabby or a blue & cream tortie tabby, or lilac & cream etc.. Torties, tabbies and tortie tabbies are common.

Whether you would describe it that way or not really doesn't matter, that's the term the cat fancy uses. Bit like pet owners saying grey and orange - doesn't make that description correct.

Your photos aren't showing red spots on my computer, so either a brown tortie tabby as NG said or it's a brown tabby with rufousing.

I know, the pics are crummy. The lighting is terrible in my mom's basement. Her tortie-ness is pretty obvious in real life. . .I don't think it's just rufousing--the red is redder than what I consider rufousing :lol3:. Now, we just need to know, is this what the OP's kitty looks like?

The pictures are hard to see, but she looks a lot like my brown patched tabbies, which I believe are called torbies in some parts of the world. Here are the two of them together

Cali has quite a bit more red in her than Iris

In this one, you can see her "tortie paw":
She looks a LOT like some of the kittens from a litter I rescued several years ago who were brown torbie, aka brown patched tabby or if you want to get technical brown mackerel torbie or brown mackerel patched tabby (mackerel refers to them having the tabby stripes). The two that did not have white also had paws like that. Of course the one that has white, her paws are just white so she doesn't have that.

Here are the torbies from the litter:

The two in the middle in this photo, Harlequin and Rosalie, are torbies, the two on the top and bottom are their brothers who are tabbies.

And the other torbie in the litter, Tiger:

One of them had a "split color" foot like yours:

The other had this interesting pattern on one foot:

(I find it interesting how the paw pad colors are different, it's hard to tell there, but one middle toe is pink and the other dark brown)

Harlequin was the only female I ended up keeping from their litter, she's the one who has the white. She is actually a ticked torbie instead of a mackerel torbie like her sisters so her color name (at least in TICA where she shows as  HHP) is brown ticked torbie & white. If we were in CFA instead she would probably be called a ticked patched tabby with white I guess as I know CFA calls them "patched tabbies" instead, but that is quite a mouthful to say!
Ticked means they have 'ticking' and not stripes like a mackerel would have. I will post a few photos of her but I'll make a new reply because last time I posted too many photos in one message they wouldn't all show up.
