Hi everyone! my name is Beatrice , I am 22 years old and I live in Italy!

I live with my family still and we have a dog, two tortoises and 4 cats, one of them, Ginger, she is my girl :)

I have an american boyfriend and I plan on moving to the US next year so i want to bring Ginger with me. Did anyone of you guys ever move by plane with a pet?

Also does anyone of you own a Siberian cat? what can you tell me about allergy problems? I heard they have less Feld-1 than normal cats.

Well hope i get some feedback ^^

love from italy

Hi Beatrice and Ginger! A number of members have traveled with their kitties via airplane. I am sure they will love to share their experiences with you.

Hi & welcome to TCS!  Italy is my dream vacation destination!  (I'm half Italian).  I don't have experience traveling w/ a cat, but hopefully, someone who does will come along soon & offer advice. You have found the right place for it.

-(I'm Kelly, by the way)

Hello..welcome I have flown with a cat 2 times before and they have done great...although I have not flown as far as Italy that's quite a trip...I would suggest checking with the airlines to fine out if the cat can be with you in the cabin or they have to be in a crate under neath the plane. I do not  recommend under the plane I flew with my cats under the front seat in front of me so I could slip my hand in the carries at time to let the cat know your still there and they feel more comfortable. Just check each airlines pet policy.. hope that helps...oops also I put a harness on mine so if I had a lay over somewhere I would take them in the handicap bathroom and let them out for a short time to stretch their little legs. I was also asked to take them out of the carrier when walking through the metal detector so having the harness helped with that too, I left the harness on the entire flight for safety...Annette

Hi there! I'm new to this site also.

I don't have any experience on flying with a cat, but I have done extensive research on Siberian cats, as my daughter has a moderate cat allergy.

Yes, some Siberians do have a lower level of Fel D1. Some people will have an allergic reaction to even a small amount of Fel D1, so it's best to conduct an allergy challenge with the cats from a particular breeder that you may adopt from. I have found that very few breeders test their specific cats to determine their levels. Even if both parents have been tested and are found to have lower than average levels (less than 5), a kitten produced from them could still have a higher level of Fel D1. .

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post my breeder's website on here. She is the only one that I was able to find in the US who has done laboratory testing on all of her breeding cats. I know there is still a chance that our kitten will not have a lower level of the allergen, but we felt this was the best guarantee we could get to ensure that our daughter doe not exhibit any negative effects to the kitten.

If you'd like her information, send me a PM.
