So around last week, I noticed my cat, Felix, had lost a lot of weight, wasn't eating as much as he used to, stopped grooming himself, only wanted to sleep in the meatloaf position, and also discovered a lump on his neck. I wasn't able to take Felix to the doctor until Thursday when my bf could accompany me and translate whats going on since my Japanese skills are limited(that was a horrible day too due to the fact that I had to fake sick because my current job is anal about taking off at the last minute to tend to stuff like this...and I had to struggle to get a doctor's note for 3hours because a lot of doctor clinics were closed that day after 12pm, but enough about me and my crappy job). So I went to the vet, they did their tests and could not tell me what was exactly wrong with my Felix. At first they thought it was FIP, (not possible..this is a house cat), than they thought he probably had cancer cause they found a mass around his chest, but wouldn't know unless they did a biopsy, and could not understand why his T-Bil was high which would make his eyes start to turn yellow since his liver was okay...
So they gave my stinky, his nick name for when he uses his litter box and lights up the house, some steroids to regain his appetite and was like *come back Sunday to see how he's doing*
Long story short: The doctor not knowing what was wrong with my cat got me upset. So I got my mother to call my Felix's doctor back in the states, read the symptoms he had as well as the blood test from the vet I took him to in Japan, and USA doctor believes he has hyperthyroidism due to his blood results last year showing his thyroid test was alil high but still in normal range at the time. However, I have to go back and get the blood work done to prove this theory right, and start my cat on the medicine to fix this if that's indeed the case, which brings me to my problem.
Since my cat came back from the vet on Thursday, he seems to have a hard time breathing...(like he starts opening his mouth sometimes to breath. This is a new symptom that came up...)and my cat hates the vet...so I'm worried that this will stress him out again to the point that it could kill him. Its ironic how I thought traveling for 21hours on a plane would give him a heart attack too when he was healthy.
I plan to go to another vet, so far this Dr. has 17years experience working with cats, and I plan to explain to him before I go about my Felix's condition and if he can sedate my baby so he can properly draw blood(other vet didn't do that..and his screams were heard by everyone..). My USA doctor suggested that too since he also did that to my cat before. Its only a 15minute walk from my apartment, but it stills freaks me out because he even hates traveling in his carrier. When we went on Thursday he was pretty vocal, off and on, *sighs*
I guess..I just want some good vibes that everything will be okay, and he's strong enough to fight this so he can get better...
(I tried a lot of things to calm my cat down..but he's a fighter. On my plane ride to Japan, he eventually calmed down cause he stressed himself to sleep as well as just giving up to his life in his carrier =p)
Today he actually ate like 40% of his food according to my bf, and he was more vocal compared to yesterday....
