So around last week, I noticed my cat, Felix, had lost a lot of weight, wasn't eating as much as he used to, stopped grooming himself, only wanted to sleep in the meatloaf position, and also discovered a lump on his neck. I wasn't able to take Felix to the doctor until Thursday when my bf could accompany me and translate whats going on since my Japanese skills are limited(that was a horrible day too due to the fact that I had to fake sick because  my current job is anal about taking off at the last minute to tend to stuff like this...and I had to struggle to get a doctor's note for 3hours because a lot of doctor clinics were closed that day after 12pm, but enough about me and my crappy job). So I went to the vet, they did their tests and could not tell me what was exactly wrong with my Felix. At first they thought it was FIP, (not possible..this is a house cat), than they thought he probably had cancer cause they found a mass around his chest, but wouldn't know unless they did a biopsy, and could not understand why his T-Bil was high which would make his eyes start to turn yellow since his liver was okay...
So they gave my stinky, his nick name for when he uses his litter box and lights up the house, some steroids to regain his appetite and was like *come back Sunday to see how he's doing*

Long story short: The doctor not knowing what was wrong with my cat got me upset.  So I got my mother to call my Felix's doctor back in the states, read the symptoms he had as well as the blood test from the vet I took him to in Japan, and USA doctor believes he has hyperthyroidism due to his blood results last year showing his thyroid test was alil high but still in normal range at the time. However, I have to go back and get the blood work done to prove this theory right, and start  my cat on the medicine to fix this if that's indeed the case, which brings me to my problem.

Since my cat came back from the vet on Thursday, he seems to have a hard time breathing...(like he starts opening his mouth sometimes to breath. This is a new symptom that came up...)and my cat hates the vet...so I'm worried that  this will stress him out again to the point that it could kill him. Its ironic how I thought traveling for 21hours on a plane would give him a heart attack too when he was healthy.
I plan to go to another vet, so far this Dr. has 17years experience working with cats, and I plan to explain to him before I go about my Felix's condition and if he can sedate  my baby so he can properly draw blood(other vet didn't do that..and his screams were heard by everyone..). My USA doctor suggested that too since he also did that to my cat before. Its only a 15minute walk from my apartment, but it stills freaks me out because he even hates traveling in his carrier. When we went on Thursday he was pretty vocal, off and on, *sighs*

I guess..I just want some good vibes that everything will be okay, and he's strong enough to fight this so he can get better...
(I tried a lot of things to calm my cat down..but he's a fighter. On my plane ride to Japan, he eventually calmed down cause he stressed himself to sleep as well as just giving up to his life in his carrier =p)
Today he actually ate like 40% of his food according to my bf, and he was more vocal compared to yesterday....

Here's some good vibes to you and your kitty!  I'm sure the vet will iron things out tomorrow.  Please do keep us posted.

Thank you!!

meh, I don't know if this was a wasted trip or not, but the vet couldn't properly see Felix today. The vet opened up at 9am today, we go there 7mins after 9,but they closed today at 12pm so he said he didn't want to just rush with my cat to see what was wrong. (in my head this makes no sense since their hours tomorrow are 9-12pm than 5-8pm, but I assume there will be two doctors present since today there was only him to even out the load)So we have to go back again tomorrow morning so he can begin testing Felix.

The only good thing about this visit was that my cat didn't go crazy to the point of having a heart attack, and the stress from the vet made him eat a whole can of soft paste food, and he tried eating my food again...(he tried licking my bowl full of spicy sauce, thats the old felix I know..)Also, I liked how the vet didn't just dive in to mandhandle him and actually allowed me to rub my cat while he was checking his neck and his skin.
bad news: I spent $15 just for the vet to feel his neck, check the elasticity of his skin, and be like "come back tomorrow" which only took 10mins...
My bf and I both have work tomorrow, so looks like I may have to leave my stinky at the vet, and my bf will have to pick him up from work.

So Felix isn't doing to well right now, and I feel really upset with myself and the new doctor I took him too.
We dropped off my cat around 9:00am, and I reminded the dr again to sedate my cat when he needed to draw blood because he gets too
anxious. He told me he would if he felt it was needed, and I felt as soon as he got the needle, he would be able to tell. So when I get off of work, I call my bf to find out the results. The doctor says he has liquid in his chest due to the lump on his neck, but he doesn't know what the lump is. The hyperthyroidism test came back negative, and my cat also has an unknown mass behind his chest. They were against surgery to remove the liquid and the unknown lump on my cats neck due to his age as well as him being too feisty with a needle. He said if we wanted to test and see what this lump + liquid is, its futile since it would require surgery.

However, my bf told me something was wrong with my cat's leg, and when I got home, I saw that my baby's front left leg was limp! He could not walk on it!! My bf called back the vet and he said that when he got too excited today, the liquid from the unknown mass could of paralyzed his nerves...(after I told that doctor to give alil sedation medicine to my cat so he could not get anxious)...or maybe the doctor hurt a nerve when he was taking blood or he broke his arm?I don't know...cause my cat can still move his arm, but the paw has no feeling to it....and as of now, I'm tired of taking my cat to the vet, and so is he...I don't want him to suffer at the vet anymore...
But still..how can my cat go into the vet walking fine, and come out like this? And I also don't see the T4 test on his blood work sheet, why is that?!

Once again I have no definite answers with my cat, and I'm upset the vet didn't listen to me!! I was already scared to take my cat to the vet, and now this happens?!? He was walking just fine,up until we took him in! He even started to eat alil again!! I don't like seeing my baby this way and neither does he not like being able to walk...He's just laying down beside me,but I know he's in discomfort..He's still a fighter, but I'am sadly debating if its cruel to keep my cat alive this way....

Oh boy, this sounds like thrombosis. He needs to see an ER vet immediately. Do you have one available? http://pets.webmd.com/cats/aortic-thromboembolism-cats. Please read that article.

Also, FIP is absolutely still possible in a house cat it has nothing to do with being outside. FIP can be dormant for a long time, and can be genetic. But this sounds more like the aortic thrombosis. Please find another vet! I know this is a pain but his life depends on it. In the meantime, LOTS AND LOTS OF good vibes coming your way!!!
I'm so sorry all of this is happening to you and your sweet Felix.

Felix passed away yesterday while I was at work....
he wasn't alone, my bf got home from work earlier than me so Felix spent his last moments with him, but my bf claimed my cat called out to me because it always sounded like he said my name every now and than. Thank you for everyone who responded
