My little kitten, Leo, is 6 weeks old...he'll be 7 weeks on Monday. He is getting an all wet diet of Blue Wilderness since it is grain free. I've been giving him 4 feedings a day and letting him eat as much as he wants at each feeding. Is this good? He eats about 6oz a day. Should he be eating more, less? He is extremely active.

I have another question regarding Leo. Because of Easter we will be gone from about 9am-4/5pm. Will he be ok going that long without a meal? What should we do? Thanks

I read a suggestion somewhere about freezing the canned food when you'll be gone all day. . .just put the frozen plate out and by the time he needs to eat it, it should be thawed. Keeps it fresh for longer. I wouldn't leave a baby kitten like that without food all day.

I reversed the quotes by accident, mea culpa
What you are feeding him per day is probably alright but by 10 weeks he should be up to about 7.25 to 9oz per day on an all wet diet.  These amounts are suggestions so you can add more or take away more as needed. If you feed him more and he leaves some, then reduce his portion for a short time.  But he will need more as he gets older.

I would not leave a kitten that long without food. Freeze enough to leave out after he eats his regular portion in the morning.  Give him a regular feeding in the morning and then put the frozen out after you leave.  It will gradually thaw and he can munch on it while you are gone. When you get home give him another regular feeding.   Best of luck to you!

Thank you for the replies. I like the idea of freezing his food. I really didn't like the idea of offering him kibble since my other cat has become such a dry food junkie...I didn't want to risk him deciding he likes kibble better. I'm also glad to hear that he is eating enough, I had a feeling he was considering just how active he his, he doesn't stop playing, ever!

Kittens and pregnant and lactating cats should all be fed as much as they want to eat and in all cases it can be a lot, lot more than an adult cat would eat.  As growth slows down, kittens should start to eat less.

Thank you everyone for the suggestion to freeze the wet food, it worked perfectly! I never would have thought of doing that and it's nice to know I can stick to an all wet diet and be able to leave for longer periods at a time if I need to. Thanks again!
