Good Morning from Greece.

I live on an island and  I care for many strays, right now I have in my basement one semi-wild tom (castrated since 2 yrs ago) with a broken jaw, he's healing well from that. BUT what I've noticed is that he is crying in his litter box and hardly passing pee. He is peeing cause I see it in the litter, but not properly. I suspect an infection, and hopefully is not a blockage.

My problem, beside the economic one of buying prescription food for him (20 euro for a 2 kilo bag)  is to pill him.

Normally I would need to give him baytril for 15-20 days.... for his broken jaw I've been trying to pill him and ended up scratched and stressing him more, so I stopped as he would go nuts and vomit all his pills around.

I can try putting the pill in some kind of gel/paste and give it to him like that, as Baytril is a much smaller pill than the one for the broken jaw.

What about the Methygel ? I've heard that it acidifies the urine and can help if is a blockage.

Every bit of help/advise will be highly appreciated.

If you think it is stones, it is important to know which sorts stones before you try a medicine or food-diete.  The one stone, the most common, is helped by acidish food or medicines.  But the other is the other way - it grows from acidish.

Had the vet any suggestion here which it could be here?   I understand he though it was infection as the main course.

OH I am so sorry to hear this. AND BLESS YOU for caring for these kitties. You are just so kind :heart3: Sorry it took a bit for a response. :hugs: I am glad to hear you were able to get this cat to a vet. OMG the poor thing a broken jaw and all on top of this UTI. I really hope that your vet is kind to you with charges. You are caring for all of these cat's and need a break financially. It is always wonderful to find a vet willing to help you pro-bono, so to speak :cross: I wonder did the vet run a culture on the urine?? This would have been helpful in determining if there are crystal's or stone's and then a diet can be determined. AWWW you are doing everything you possibly can. IF a cat does block, it is life threatening and an extremely painful death if they don't get help immediately. I would watch this cat very closely. There is only so much you can do financially too, I imagine. Such a hard life for these cat's..... :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Thank you so much for caring.  I note that you list your location as Greek islands.

Male cats + fish = bad news.  So to the extent possible, avoid anything with fish.

I will be in Mykonos and Santorini in early October, and hope to do some volunteering with The Santorini Animal Welfare Association   (TNR).  I assume you're familiar with that organization; maybe a similar organization can help you.
