Well hello everyone, I just joined the site today (YAY!!). Anywho I brought in a stray who has been hanging around, and to my surprise she is quite pregnant. I can feel the kittens in there moving all around, she has lost the hair around her nipples and they have white crust on the tips of them. I set her up a box in my closet, its quiet and dark.. she goes in there and rearranges it usually everyday.. but no signs of labor yet, what are the symptoms I should watch out for?

Yay! Well first off, welcome to the site! :) And what an amazing thing you're doing for that stray momma and her babies. And also- welcome to the waiting game!!! Haha. There's about 4/5 of us on here [including me] who have pregnant mommas and are waiting for the day! I've heard symptoms and signs are different with every cat- some show absolutely no signs whatsoever. But some i've seen a little more frequently is the queen stops eating 24-48 hours before birth. Bloody discharge from her area that can last 4+ days before labor. More affectionate then normal, more vocal than normal, showing interest in the birthing box you've made her [although that's no guarantee she'll have them there]. I've read a lot that you can normally SEE kittens moving 1-2 weeks before birth and that you can normally FEEL the kittens moving 2-3 weeks before birth. I don' know how accurate these are, as im sure it's different for all, but on Friday I will have been able to feel the kittens for over 3 weeks, and I will hav ebeen able to feel the kittens for about a week and a half.
If your lady shows any signs or symptoms before birth be sure to post on here as to help future fosters taking care of pregnant mammas :) Good luck! And I hope the birthing goes quick and easy for the momma and that all are safe and healthy when the time comes.

Ok I finally woke up this morning to 2 kitties :) one all orange and one all black (not sure if she is done) she had them right next to me last night and I didnt even know it @.@, she even had them in her kittening box I am so happy :D. Well these are the sings I noticed. 2 days before she had them she was quite distant, more and more time she spent on her own. She ate less, but still ate yesterday. I never saw her mucus plug, or her water break. The only physical thing about her I noticed is her mammery glands swelled up quite a bit yesterday. So I really didn't notice to much else about her she seemed very normal, never cried out now she is a happy momma to two beautiful babies :D.

Glad all went well - it usually does. Photos, please?
And if she will let you weigh them each day (do it at about the same time, record the results) then you can see that all is well. They should put on 10g or 1/2 oz per day or more, and losing a little weight in the first day or two is normal. I used electronic kitchen scales for the fosters I had last year, you need scales that will weigh to 1g or 1/10 oz. Do it in front of her, pick the kitten up, weigh it, and put it right back. I also took photos of them on the scales once a week, until they didn't fit on the scales at 3 weeks old.
