i have a box room that i have cleared out for my cat to have her kittens. she is due in about 2 and half  weeks. she has only been in the room when i go in with her but comes straight back out when i do aswell. in the room i have a nesting box with a plush cover in it i have put some of her toys around the room as well and a soft sofabed seat she likes to lie on. i have put other plush covers around the room for her to explore but she wont even think about going in the room. she is always to busy following me around or wanting outside. what can i do to get her interested in the nesting box/room?

You can take a cat to a birthing room but you can't make her have her kittens there...  It's a bit like 'how do you make God laugh?  You tell him your plans.'

Leave the door open, feed her in there, spend time with her in there, hopefully she will start nesting in there in a couple of weeks or so.  Right now she feels pretty much normal and maybe wonders why you are all of a sudden so interested in the room no-one goes in!

You should also keep her in once she has her kittens.  In the unlikely event she has an accident you might have orphen kittens which are a lot of hard work, and she might get pregnant again quite soon after the birth.

I've read a lot of times they don't even get interested until the last week or so, so be patient! Your girl still has a while ;) She'll know when it's time and seek out a safe, dark, quiet place.

I think the crystals are OK for kittens - I wouldn't use clumping litter as sometimes they eat it, part of exploring with their mouths...  I don't know what it will be like on the cost front though.  Nursing queens can be a bit loose, and once the kittens are several weeks old they do a lot of peeing and pooing between themselves.  I got some stuff called Fresh News (UK) and 4 big bags did for one cat with loose bowels and five healthy kittens for 8 weeks.  The free recyclable plastic bags the local council suppliers for kitchen waste were very useful!

Dunno what Sasha's tray is like, but you need one (or several) with a low lip to start with.  I found they are quite quickly able to jump in mum's tray and maybe it makes them feel more 'grown up', but they also tend to need to go Right Now, as soon as the idea enters their head.  Holding on to get to the tray isn't easy at first.  Thankfully kittens have small bladders!

I never had to do anything to get kittens to start eating solids (they explore mum's food, messy but fun) and also copy her - eating her food, using her tray.  She teaches them as well, far better than I can.

I brought it from R&L Pet Products.  Check the GCCF show page, if there is one you can get to on Saturday then ring R&L and see if they will be going - they do good discounts at shows on cat litter and food at shows.  It's best to tell them what you want and they will reserve if for you, and will know if you can get to their stall all day or afternoon only.

If you do plan to change your cat's litter then yes, gradually leading up to birth is a better idea than all of a sudden!

They have a huge range of litters, and AFAIK the crystals are OK for kittens.  You might also find your current litter there.
