I woke up Thursday at 4 am to visit bathroom.  I was extremely light headed/dizzy.  Wow- made it back to bed hoping when the alarm went off at 5 am I would feel better.  Not the case.  It was very challenging to shower, dress and drive to work.  Had a glass of oj, a banana and a slice pf toast in case it was low blood sugar.  By I'd say 10:30 am or so I was feeling less dizzy.  Needless to say when I was done at noon I cam home ate & napped and not much else.  I did notice though that behind my jaw ear area was painful and a but swollen.

Friday morning I didn't have the same symptoms when getting up but that pain was still there.  As I am leaving for a 1000 mile drive Thursday morning I went to a urgent care clinic after work.  No fever and the doc said ear canal was clear and my throat/mouth as well.

Said swollen lymph node-use ibuprofen and warm compress and should be ok in two weeks.

So yesterday and today I wake up ok but after an hour or so I'm still dizzy/lightheaded (not as bad as Thursday).  Some nausea too.

I'm thinking I must have some inner ear problem but do I just watch or go back again to the doctor?  What can I do to help this mild dizziness? (besides not doing much.)

Gail :hugs: I would go back to the doctor  Sounds like an inner ear causing the vertigo. That is no fun and so worrisome. I hope you can get this resolved very soon. Feel better and keep us posted :hugs: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

I hope you feel better soon Gail! I had an inner ear infection years ago and it was NOT fun. I thought it was a wisdom tooth pressing on a nerve because I couldn't open my mouth without pain. Eating, talking, etc was excruciating, not to mention the dizziness and nausea. I finally gave in and went to a dentist who told me it was an inner ear infection. He prescribed antibiotics and compazene (sp?) for the nausea and it cleared up in a week.

If you're taking a road trip on Thursday I would go back and ask for something for the vertigo. You don't need to be driving that far if your not feeling well.

Lymph nodes don't swell for no reason - IMHO you should see your family doctor before your trip.  Just to be on the safe side.  You definitely don't want to be under the weather going that distance.  I hope you get better soon.

I have no fever and when he looked in ear he said it looked clear.  He said lymph nodes swell due to an infection and I had a cyst or pimple on my face that I picked on a couple of weeks ago which could be the problem.  Today the dizziness was better and I slept off and on this afternoon and feel ok now.  I'll see how the next couple of days go.

Lymph nodes can stay swollen for some time after an infection has gone.  I am glad you are feeling better.

I'm glad you're feeling better. But if you start feeling bad again, you really need to go back to the dr....especially since you're leaving on that trip. Take care!

It's been my experience that those urgent care places don't always get the right diagnosis.  If you have a regular doctor you go to, might want to think about a visit there just to be on the safe side.  Sounds pretty scary.
