Hi. My poor girl emily is still gagging when she tries to purr. She licks on he food (soft, dry, dry that has been soaked and looks like soup) so I am trying to get some food in her but she is now not eating. I had posted prior (13 yo cat gaggs/vomits after purring). I put her in my bedroom with a humidifier running to see if that might help. She was still pretty nasally soundind but she seemed to have slept ok wish I could say the same :/. I did give her the prednisone yesterday but could not get the llysine down her. I really feel she has a soar throat by the way she swallows. Has anyone treated a cat for this? Her vet was not in yesterday otherwise I would have taken her back to at least get subcontanious fluids so she does not dehydrated Prayers for her please. Any ideas on treating a sore throat are welcomed.

Is she dehydrated?  Have you checked her scruff? If you lift it it should snap straight back, the slower it is to go back the more dehydrated the cat is.  If she is, she needs oral rehydration fluids ASAP - plenty of recipies on the internet.  If you have a syringe you can gently and slowly squirt it in the side of her mouth, you will almost certainly have to hold her scruff firmly to do this but untreated dehydration is very bad for her.  It will keep her going until you get to the vet.  Keep checking her scruff, keep giving her the fluid 10ml or so at a time while she is dehydrated.

Visit your vet as soon as they are open - what I'm suggesting is a stop-gap.

I just checked her scruff per the Instructions you listed and her scruff appears to go back to normal - it not slow to return. She was not happy about me doing that whic really out of her character. She is one of the sweetest cats I have ever owned. I will keep checking her. Please has anyone ever treated a sore throat in cats?!?!

It's important that she eat.  You may need to water down some canned food for her and syringe feed her.  Also, frequent steam treatments or continued use of the vaporizer will help.  She's probably not able to smell anything because she's stuffed up.  Most likely the gagging was from excess drainage due to allergies (airborne, esp. if your seasons are changing) or maybe an upper respiratory infection.
