I'm in a bit of a panic, I've had Kit for a couple years since she was a Kitten. Now she is pregnant and starting to show signs of early labor. I'm concerned because through everything I've read I should be able to feel the kittens but I can't and she is starting to spot blood. Please help, is this "normal" or should I be as worried as I am..?

You can't really do much except keep your eye on her.  It's possible she is miscarrying, but maybe not.

Whatever happens, please get her neutered either ASAP if she miscarries, or once she has weaned her kittens.

I will be getting her spayed as soon as her kittens (if any) are weaned.. I guess I'll just keep her close and hope for the best..

I've read in different forums that in some cats you can't feel the kittens inside the mothers belly at all. It's different for all cats. I've also read they can have bloody discharge for up to 4 days before they give birth, so it's possible she's close- or like someone said before possibly a miscarriage? We're not all professionals on here and are looking for answers just as you are. I know in this forum http://www.thecatsite.com/t/242206/pregnant-cat-temperature-dropped/120 lilkim 's pregnant female has had bloody discharge for a few days now and is due any day.

Spotting?  from the mouth?  This is NOT common. Perhaps if she happened to bite herself (this not so dangerous).

If  blood from the mouth, phone at least a vet...

Blood from behind is more common. Or rather, bloody disharges, red-coloured water. Common.

If it is fresh blood and more then some drops - not so good. prepare to phone vet.

If it is flowing fresh blood - asap to vet...

Good luck!

ps.  I presume Oriental though you talked about some drops of red coloured watery discharge, this is shurey why he didnt told you more.

ps 2.  It may be miscarriage, but some pre delivery contractions arent unusual some time before.

But toghether with blood sounds more serious.

You shall perhaps contact your vet after all?!

The discharge is from her nether regions.. She still has it, not a huge amount of discharge, so I am not really worried anymore and I felt around a bit longer and finally actually located at least one of the kittens.. Since I'm not sure what a contraction looks like I don't know for sure if she has had one yet..

Try watching some videos on youtube. That's what I did in order to prepare myself, the contractions kind of look like their stomach tightening and twinging.

She just had her first Kitten, a cute healthy looking little Kit.. I'm not bothering her to see if it is a boy or girl, but they are both doing really well.. Can't wait for the rest.. :D

Hoping for good continuation!   *vibes*

I agree, it isnt worth to bother to see the sex, but it is useful to weigh them every day.  Good if you can begin shortly after the delivery.

If everything goes OK, this will be a nice memory. But if anything is unsure, this is a wonderful help to detect if things are reasonably OK, or if you must act yourself..

ALL breeders do weigh their kittens, and most rescuers too.

Use a kitchen weigh. In grams or in 1/10 oz.  You can get them pretty cheap.

Good luck!

Has there been any contractions? Is she straining or in distress? It is rare for cats to have only 1 kittens but it does happen, especially if this is her first pregnancy.

What is she doing, how is she?

Is she in labor, distress, difficulties?  If so - you must prob contact a vet, asap.

If she is calm, contend, pleased, nursing nicely her firstborn - you dont need to do much.

Observe of course, but if you phone a vet he would surely tell you you can await.

It is perhaps just one. Or the others may come several hours apart. Or sometimes even several days apart.

As said, if she is calm, everything seems ok, you can "await", being watchful of course.

Good luck!   *vibes*
