Well we brought him home.  We decided not to put him through more testing that would require anesthesia and stress him..he let us know when we went to see him at the hospital that it just wasn't time yet.  He's on sub-q fluids until drinking well on his own, and I'm handfeeding him, on an antibiotic and appetite stimulant.  So...love, cheese danish and staying hopeful.
Awwww I am glad you have your boy with you :rub: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: For him to get better and tons of :hugs: for mom :hugs:

Good for you and I pray the Sub-Q gets him feeling a lot better.  Our Moti bravely let me give them to her,and we had a good long time together as a result.

Update: he's drinking on his own (though I'm going to continue sub-qs until he doesn't absorb what I'm giving him like a thirsty sponge!) and today is the first day he "ate" something.  I wanted to try a pouch of cat food I found yesterday when we went to get a variety to tempt him (and feed blenderized, today is last day of a/d) it was tuna in pumpkin soup.  He drank some of the soup and ate a wee bit of the tuna.  Feels like a victory :)

So...we cautiously hope.  Have added a pre-and pro-bioltic powder to the food I'm syringe feeding him, and have touched base with our regular vet..will take him in for followup soon, since hopefully, he's only going to keep getting better.

More updates: he's just beginning to eat a bit, but has new issues.  He has a mild pneumonia (now on several antibiotics for) and his heart is enlarged, still not looking normal re intestines.  We are backing way, way, way off on the sub-q fluids, with me checking his respiratory rate now to decide if he gets any (will be small amount twice a day if they are okay), and he will have repeat x-rays to see how he's responding to the decreased fluids and antibiotics, next week.
He spent the day at the v-e-t yesterday because we could see he was laboring with his respirations and I just didn't feel comfortable waiting for his apt this weekend or in continuing the amount of sub-q fluids he was on.  He apparently spent the day wooing every doctor and tech there..he murmured, he purred, he cooed, stretched out his paws, rolled over and did the upside down gaze..silly Curl kitty.  As my vet said when she called, he's so frisky..not a kitty ready to go.

He's really responding to Kitty Kaviar right now (yay!) so that is how I'm tempting him to eat something..anything.  Please keep those vibes coming, it's still day by day, but he's a happy boy, not in any pain that we can tell, and we are just loving him up as much as we can.

Well we finally have an answer.  After a recent endotracheal wash (his respiratory rate landed him back at the 24 hour clinic we use, where we have found a gem of an internist), they changed the antibiotic he was on, but found a new issue - some ascites.  His one week followup xray was to have been yesterday, but instead an abdominal ultrasound was recommended and done and his chest tapped for fluid accumulation.  He doesn't have cancer, he has congestive heart failure - the cause of the fluid buildup in his chest (a new occurance) and the ascites.  The prognosis is, if we are lucky and he responds well to the medication for his heart, he has 6 months to a year.  At 16+, we'd adore a year..we will settle for 6 months..anything but only a few days or another week.

He's eating, purring when with his dad, continues to be quite the charmer and noticeably feels much better today.

I'll say it again..what a horrid year!

Oh, gosh, that's tough.  *PRAYERS* for him! and for you all.  May he (pleasantly) surprise you all and go past the year.  Quality time, though, is the important thing, and I'm sure you agree.

Well, now you at least know what you are dealing with. The gift of time is such a blessing with our older, sickly babies. Sometimes they do surprise us and plow on day to day. I hope that for your Denebola. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: :heart3:

Overdue update: Dee has managed to continue to be a conumdrum - had a recent echocardiogram so we could really get the best idea of what is going on with his heart.  He had a checkup today, and for the first time, in months, IF the review of his x-ray by the radiologist and the results of his lab work, don't show any new problem, and he stays stable, does not need to be seen for maybe 3 months!!!!!!!!!

We have had him in just about weekly - sometimes for hospitalizations - since his initial incident back in March I think it was.  He's gained weight (needs more on, imo), his breathing is no longer labored, he's really doing as well as we could have hoped for, and we will enjoy what ever amount of time he has left.  The fewer vet visits he needs, the better he says <G>.
