Worried about spay

I haven't posted in a long long time.
In June my mom brought me a week old orphan kitten. I fed her kmr out of a dropper every 2 hours at night and day until she was 6 weeks old. She had trouble learning to eat because of an overbite. She has grown beautifully and is the sweetest thing. My other 2 cats have accepted her and it is sweet to see them snuggle.
Today I dropped her off for her spay. I know it is late as she is 8 months already but I have this irrational fear of something happening to her. I was fine with my other cats being spayed and neutered.
Maybe it is because she is my little orphan baby.
I dropped her off at 8 and it is almost 1 and the vet hasn't even called yet. I tried calling and they were busy.
Anyone ever had something go wrong with a spay?

Awww hun, no wonder you're anxious, she IS your baby! Thankfully I've never had a bad experience with a spay or neuter and I've been through many as we have 11 cats of our own and have had countless fosters come in and out of our home who were spayed/neutered. I get upset every time, but it always seems to be harder on me than it is on them! Keep your chin up, I'm sure everything is fine.
