Well, I got back on Sunday evening and promptly put out the traps to start back up on my mission.  I was told on Monday morning that my horrible hillbilly neighbor actually got a couple of them over the weekend.
I asked the lot manager what had happened?  She said she left for the weekend too and didn't find out about it until now.  But she'd have a word with him again.  So please light a candle for the 4 that he caught and destroyed with a shotgun.

There were none in the traps on Monday.  I didn't see any out and about on Sunday evening or all day Monday so I thought maybe he got them all.... But, there was one in the trap this morning.  A grey tabby.  I took her to be spayed.  Bunny is at her new farm.  She made it through her surgery OK and she actually left just before I got there.  The boys made it through their neutering fine and the mad tortie made it through hers OK, too.  The boys are also at their new homes.  The tortie remains.  She will probably be picked up when the girl I dropped off today is done.

So sad:(

I guess I am sort of lucky that most people around here care to little to even trap a cat.

Glad the others are doing ok.

Just burns me up about the Hillbilly neighbor you speak of. :eek:nfire: How utterly cruel and I can't believe that could be a legal thing to do. Shoot feral cat's in traps. :bawling: I am thankful to hear that you have been successful in saving multiple cats so far. Keep on going.... those kitties need you. You have a great vet too and wonderful farms that are willing to take these cat's after their spueter's. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Well, Feralvr unfortunately Missouri is years behind on Animal Welfare and Animal Rights.  The police do nothing to him except say "Now you shouldn't do that, sir!"
As if that does a lot of good!  I don't know if there are any more?  I haven't seen any and the last two nights, I have caught oppossums in the traps instead of cats.  I will keep trying just in case... But the others are all done and at their new homes.  They all came through with flying colors.  I'll let you know if I catch any more!

Try not to think about the ones you could not save, but, rather, concentrate on the ones you DID save.  You're their angel

Aw hun.... must be hard to live next door to that awful person (monster ) and know you won't get any help/assistance from authorities. :sigh: I agree with Sally :hugs:, in that you are saving lives here. Just think of the ones who are now in their forever homes because of your efforts and intervention to save them. Bless your heart :heart3: You can only do so much and you are trying. Don't be hard on yourself. You are going above and beyond to try to save these cat's from that horrible man's abuse. You have done a wonderful job and are very compassionate. :rub: :heart2: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Thank you all... He (my horrid neighbor) has put his traps back out eventhough the lot manager promised she wouldn't let him.  But so far, he's only caught one... Luckily I was checking MY traps at the time and just happened to hear a kitty cry... It took some looking but I found a very young kitty in it.  A tabby.  She was taken in to my vet yesterday.  She's the only one since Tuesday that I've gotten.  And I didn't even trap her.  I was just lucky enough to hear her before he woke up.

P3, have you tried contacting your county or state law enforcement instead of the local PD? Local PDs can be largely ineffective sometimes, but bigger organizations might be able to help. And Missouri's laws seem to cover a situation like this, I looked up the statutes.

From http://www.moga.mo.gov/statutes/chapters/chap578.htm:

Animal abuse--penalties.
578.012. 1. A person is guilty of animal abuse when a person:

(1) Intentionally or purposely kills an animal in any manner not allowed by or expressly exempted from the provisions of sections 578.005 to 578.023 and 273.030;

(2) Purposely or intentionally causes injury or suffering to an animal; or

(3) Having ownership or custody of an animal knowingly fails to provide adequate care or adequate control.

2. Animal abuse is a class A misdemeanor, unless the defendant has previously plead guilty to or has been found guilty of animal abuse or the suffering involved in subdivision (2) of subsection 1 of this section is the result of torture or mutilation, or both, consciously inflicted while the animal was alive, in which case it is a class D felony.
The exemptions mainly deal with large, dangerous animals and dogs killing livestock, so this should be a clear case.

I have, speakhandsforme. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of help for CATS in my area.  They help dogs but not really cats.  I was told by the Humane Society that they are better off dead then roaming the streets as ferals... Yes... The Humane Society said that to me.  I've called the police.  All they did was come out and talk to him and say "You shouldn't do that, sir."  I've called Animal Control.  They came and took his traps.  But he had more a week later.  I've called rescue organizations. Basically they told me they are too full and couldn't help unless the police backed them up but of course, they won't because they don't care.

The area I live in may have the laws but they do not enforce them for much... Especially not cats.  It's just the sad fact.  I do what I can and just have to live with it.

Sorry for the double post but I also have called the County Sherriff's office....They came out and took a report and told him that what he is doing is a FELONY and if anyone gets evidence of this, he could be in lots and lots of trouble.  I took pictures of the dead bodies and that still wasn't enough.  Basically I need video evidence of him actually shooting them in the traps they told me.  I wouldn't let that happen in front of me and do nothing but video it!

Wow :( this saddens me so much when reading this, and that no law enforcements/animal rescues will back you up. How can people even have that mindset? It completely baffles me how there are all of us here, trying to make a difference with these strays and ferals who most of the times are pets that the owner's never bothered to get spayed or neutered and are contributing to overpopulation, or they grew up from 'cute little kittens' into adult cats and were abandoned. It sickens me, because our furry friends are so devoted and loyal even after all of the mistreatment.  And then there's people like your neighbor, who have no sympathy whatsoever and feel the needs to take things into their own hands, ILLEGALLY and unhumanely. I think it's absolutely amazing what you're doing. I have one question though- are you releasing them back into the same neighborhood? I just hope all your efforts aren't being destroyed by that horrible man killing the kitties you've already TNR'd [really any kitties, but you get what im saying]. It's such an awesome thing, what you're doing for these furry friends. Keep up the good work, sending lots of vibes your way!

NO!  They are not being released back here!  That would just be a waste of time on mine and my vets part.  He has a couple of farmers for clients and they are looking for cats to come help with pests control on their farms.  They get fed, watered and get to hunt.  They will be living the life!!

That's exactly it, too... My horrible neighbor does not see as what he is doing as illegal or wrong in any way.  He believes he is taking care of a pest, a solution of sorts.  He believes he is humane in shooting them so they die instantly and don't suffer.  He doesn't see anything wrong with it at all.  He rolled his eyes at the deputy when they told him it's a felony!

:) I figured as much, but figured I would ask because I hadn't read it anywhere. What you are doing is SO amazing for these babies!!! Hopefully that neighbor will get what's coming to him :( giving a moment of silence for the poor kitties he got to <3 You're making such a huge difference though!!! Wonderful :) tears at my heart strings when I read things like this.
