Hiya

has been a while since I have been here but need some advise.  I have two new(ish) kittes rescued after being abandoned when their owner moved house!  Large black Ruby Tuesday and teeny Tigah Buttah! Little Tigah has one eye and a heart murmur(sp) now she has allergies. A lot for one small kitty weighing in at 2.5kg.  It started as red sores on her back legs and tummy - she'd lick lick lick.  Took her to the vet who did blood tests and a skin biopsy.  Nothing.  He gave her Noroclav, some cream and a cone of shame.  She hated it but her skin cleared up.  Probably cos she couldnt get at it.  Now it has started again.  She has licked off her back leg fur, tummy fur and anywhere else she can reach. Vet reckons it is food allergies and we had Royal Canin hypoallergenic which she refused to eat (My old fat cat Katy loves it - but at 30 quid a bag its going back). We went back last night and the vet I saw is Italian - she recommended us to try Ribes Pet Paste which is not sold in the UK but I can get it through the internet from Italy. The carriage costs the same as the stuff!  I see the US also has it.  it is sold as a food supplement and you put it on the sores.  The cat then licks it off so it gets 2 way treatment - digestion and absorbtion.  We are also going to try Hills Z wet food for allergies.  So back to my original question - anyone tried Ribes Pet Paste? I have no problem buying it - I am up for trying anything but I dont want to waste my money if it is useless.

thanks

Alexis

Pasta sounds a strange product for a cat with allergies as it's often the grain component of the food that causes the problem.

WRT the heart murmer, kittens often have one that improves with age.  Before they are born the circulation is different.  Obviously blood goes through the placenta which is where it gets oxygenated, but there are also differences in the circulation - a couple of short cuts start to close at birth so that the normal circulation through the lungs is established.  It's not instant and while the changes are taking place there can be heart murmers which improve with age.

Suggest you ask about the allergies in the nutrition forum.

Also have a think about if there might be something in the environment - scented washing products for example - that might be causing a problem - though one of the really common causes of allergies in cats is fleas...

oh thanks for the reply OrientalS - should have made it clearer but pasta is just Italian for paste (so my vet says) but you are right grain is so often a cause of allergy.  Also no flea problem - think it must be down to food or enviroment but she is such a mess I wanted something to relieve the itching while we track down the cause.

Will amend the post to say paste not pasta
