Hello all,

I have a kitty and I'm trying to introduce her to wet foods. I tried 2 different ones last night and she wouldn't take any of them. I gave her a chicken one and nothing, so I dumped it out and tried a different brand, ect. Today we decided to try a fish one and she actually started to lick it but nothing. I'm wondering if she doesn't like that its wet?!?! She is a himmie mix so I know she has a flat nose. Does this play a part? I know its important for cats to have wet food. Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks

If you are free feeding dry food, it could help to switch to a feeding schedule before trying wet.  That way, with a little space between meals, the kitty will be more likely to try something new.  (Never starve the kitty, of course....just a little hunger to motivate.)  I transitioned mine from free feeding dry (in their pre-adoption setting) to scheduled dry.  Then I started putting about a tablespoon of wet next to their dry at meal time.  Luckily, they took to it right away and I just gradually increased the wet and decreased the dry.  There are tips for transitioning at catinfo.org too.  Good luck.

My cat is super picky with what foods he likes. So far I have figured out that he *usually* won't eat pate style. I ordered TOTW which is chunks because the two cans I fed him before he gobbled up. He also likes the shredded Earthborn Holistic Chicken formula. Now last night I gave him Wellness Core Salmon, Whitefish, and Herring and he finished his bowl.

He is just so undecided on what he likes!

If I had $1 for every time my cats frustrated me by not eating the wet food I put down for them I'd... well, I'd have all the money I originally wasted on that wet food to begin with. My cats never know what they want. They went from eating one brand's chicken-flavored food for months, basically refusing other flavors, to completely avoiding the chicken flavor and only liking fish now.

Like the others said, try a feeding schedule and try feeding the wet food when your cat is hungry. It sounds so simple, but it will save you a lot of money and frustration if you do everything right.

 Hi whynot
You didn't say how often or how much kibble you are feeding.  Do you free feed kibble or is your kitty on a scheduled feeding?  If she is not on a schedule you can try it and control how much kibble she eats and then introduce her to wet at a different time the kibble is fed.  If your budget allows, an automatic kibble feeder might be beneficial.  You can program it to dispense kibble whenever you want and then feed wet on a schedule.

I don't know if you have tried the Nutro brand of cat food but my cats love it.  I feed mine Nutro Natural Choice wet and will buy other super premium and premium brands to give them a different flavor and texture.  Best of luck to you and your child
