I received this email today...pretty interesting, huh?
Are you drinking enough water?

75% of all people are chronically dehydrated.

In 37% of us, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost
100% of the dieters studied in a University study.

Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could

significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory,
trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen.

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by

45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

I was doing SO good before I started my new position at work. When I was in the Pharmacy, I had my 2 liter water bottle handy all day and filled it twice per day. Dang...thats a lot of water! And a lot of poddy breaks too!

Now, since I've been running around on the sales floor I don't get to carry around a water now I might drink 4 glasses a day. I can tell I don't drink enough too. My joints hurt, my lips are drying out & cracking, my skin looks dull, I'm starting to get pimple again and I feel really run down. I'm sure some of that has to do with the new job, but I do think the water has something to do with it.

No more Sodas for me on break! WATER, WATER, WATER!

That's so important! Thanks for the reminder

I've read so much about artificial sweeteners being bad for you, I switched to regular sodas & gained 20 lbs. Now I'm trying to switch to just water & herbal tea - it's hard, but I seem to lose a little weight every time I stay away from the sodas, & regain it every time I start drinking them again. Hopefully this will re-inspire me...

I try to drink a lot of water but I am sure I dont drink as much as I should.

Believe it or not - I never drink water. I know, that's not good. I only drink Coca-Cola. That's all I have ever drank since I was born. I know it's probably going to kill me one day. I feel the effects of it now. I am not a healthy person. I have cut down on the caffeine and started drinking mostly caffiene-free, but that's about the best I can do. I just don't think I can ever give them up. Maybe I will try to drink some water every now and then. I know I should.

Sounds like you're addicted!

Honestly, I really thought I was addicted to water! How crazy is that? I swear I craved it constantly. I'd wake up in the middle of the night several times to chug a liter of water.

I think I'm slowly going insane!

Did you know if you do nothing else but switch over from drinking sodas and coffees to water and drink at least 8 cups a day, you can lose about 5 pounds in a week? I did it on weight watchers and it really works.

I believe that 100%! It's amazing how sodas will pack on the weight quickly.

I remember that my Grandmother always trink water the hole day long and ate vegie all her life . She was almost 99 years old when she passed away 6 years ago . She never had any wringel on her face , never . So water is also very good for the skin too and vegie .

Thread Starter's wonderful for your skin! Now that I'm not drinking as much, I'm starting to get a few pimples. I swear that when I was drinking all of that water, I didn't have a pimple for months. Now, I'm starting to feel like I'm going through puberty all over again!

The only way I have any water intake is when I drink Crystal Lite. Other than that, I don't consume any... I know it's bad... I just don't like it.

I was told about the effects of artificial sweetners, and I sometimes wonder if they really are affecting my short-term memory, etc. I drink an awful lot of Crystal Lite and diet sodas... maybe drinking one glass of water a day and working my way up slowly will do it. Ick.

I'm sure I fit into this group. I never drink enough water, and part of the problem is that the water in my town has a strange taste, and there's even some rust in the water. (YUCK!!!!!) We do use a Brita pitcher to filter our water which helps, but THAT water has to be ice cold before I can drink it.

This is probably too much info for you all, but I can tell when my body is dehydrated. My urine is bright yellow..almost stunningly bright. When I see that, I make sure to load up on the water. Plus, the more water you drink the less likely you are to getting UTI's.

I normally drink around 48 ounces a day. I TRYYYY to get in 64oz but some days that just doesn't happen!! When I was home I would drink ALOT of water. Now that i'm working I don't drink as much because I hate taking potty breaks!

I can always tell when I don't have enough water because I feel ouchie you know where As soon as I get some water in me I feel all better

If you only do one thing different, drink A LOT of water, you will continually lose weight. The recommended amount for a weight loss plan is....ready??.....1 gallon per day. I know, it sounds like a LOT, and it is, but it can be done. That's my goal every day, at least drink a gallon of water if I do nothing else. The first few weeks are a lot of poddy breaks, but after that your body just gets used to it, and like Shell said you start craving water.

I've been seeing a massage therapist recently for treatment of chronic pain, and he also told me to try & drink a gallon of water every day. When I do I really feel better. He says it helps to "flush the toxins" from your body. Make sure you're getting a balanced diet w/enough potassium, though, so you don't flush out important minerals. Fortunately our tap water here is really good...I'd have to drink bottled water if I lived somewhere the water didn't taste good.

Another thing to keep in mind w/sodas is that they have a lot of phosphoric acid, and too much of that can leach calcium from your bones.

then you'll be doing this repetively every 20 minutes

it's also very beneficial for breastfeeding, helps it flow better and less airbubbles for the baby

i drink a lot but the acne is here, i think mainly triggered by the estrogen pills I take and both my so's head and my cat constantly rubbing on my face

I drink about 1.5 liters a day. I used to LOVE soda, but here's the great part. If you start drinking water only, you will at first want the soda, but that craving transfers to the water, AND soda will start to taste weird to you. Of course, if you drink enough you'll start liking it again. Our bodies, when fed right, starts to crave nutritious food. Well, I got the water part down, but the food part is work in progress...

I guess I am one of those strange ones that HATES soda. I absolutely love water, have always loved it all my life. I am trying to drink a gallon - oh boy.

I am the same as you Shell, with the colour of my pee if I don't drink enough. It is also neon yellow if I take my multivitamin

Let's get drinking!

then that means your body already has enough of the vitamins if your urine is neonyellow, mine did that during the pregnancy or anytime I took any vitamins, its a way to get rid of the extra stuff that your body doesn't need. I can't do soda that often either, did it all during highschool and now I'm soda out!

I know that i don't drink as much water as I should. I tell myself that I'm going to drink more water, but that will last about a day or two. But I think I'm going to stop buying soda for my house so that I will have no choice but to drink more water.

my hubby's excuse for not drinking water
"well soda has water, and so does coffee" of course then he's parched by bedtime and doesn't want to drink any water because it'll disturb his sleep LOL!!!

I will admit that I was one of the dehydrated bunch. I used to drink practically nothing all day long.

When I started Weight Watchers 10 weeks ago, the water intake was the very first positive change I made. And even before I lost one ounce, going up to the 6-8 glasses of water a day had immediate effects I noticed. I tend to have ankle swelling when I have been on my feet all day, and that disappeared.

I am now up to a good gallon per day. As a matter of fact, other than my one coffee in the morning, all I drink now is water.

I am telling you that the postive effects make you just feel so much better. And as Heidi said, drinking a lot of water keeps weight loss going.
