I have a 12 week old kitten who is going to be fixed in the next couple months.  What can I expect after I bring her home from the operation?  Any advice, suggestions etc would be appreciated.

No need to wait a couple of months, she's old enough to be done now. It's best to get her done before the first heat cycle which can happen at 4 months.

If you get her done now, she'll come home like nothing has happened. Young ones bounce back pretty much instantly.

She will be the same as ever.  She might be a bit quiet when she first comes back, but they usually bounce right back.  And yes, many vets will neuter younger, depending on their weight.

Our vet wants to wait until she is between 5 and 6 months old. She only weighs 3.1 pounds.

That is the common is Sweden.  Not so long ago they recommended 1 year...

But the modern practice in USA, and also other countries like Denmark  showes more and more clearly they can be spayed much earlier without any risks
