I am working on be-friending a group a 10 ferals that live nearby. Some of these cats have been TNR but not all of them. I have been feeding them over the past few months and all of them have made progress with me in some way or another. I am so happy to be helping the out and it brings joy to me when I know that they are starting to trust me more and more every day.

I am very aware that I need to get the rest of the cats spayed/neutered ASAP. I have one live trap but I am just so afraid to use it on them (the other cats that have been TNR were done by another person).

I am afraid that they will never trust me again If they know that it was me who trapped them and took the to this scary place...

Does anyone have any advice to make this operation go smoothly and make sure they will still love me after?

Much Appreciated!

Dont worry! The beauty of trapping is they dont connect you with it. The other way around, you will let them out back home when they are done.  So their gratitude will sooner be reinforced.

Our TNR ing and rescuing forumists all tells so.

Taking in trap is this way MUCH better than chase and take them by force.  THIS could be giving them negative feelings against you.

But if you do worry so much, you can perhaps get someone help you with the self trapping?  It shouldnt be necessary, but possible if you want.

Good luck!   *vibes*

You just gotta do it is all.  Thank-you for caring for the kitties.

They don't know you are doing it out of love, but you are helping them so very much.

Hopefully, this will make you feel better. A friend of mine recently called to ask me to help someone she knew with some TNR. He was taking care of four cats, everything was in place to trap and he changed his mind because he was afraid they would no longer trust him. We were able to convince him to let us go ahead and he reluctantly did.

The cats were returned to him, he released them the next day, and called excitedly saying the cats not only forgave him but were still hanging around and even sitting with him. He was so glad he went through with it.

Actually, the opposite will happen! The cat's will see you as their savior when you come to pick them up, take them home for recovery, and then release them back out to their territory. It really will not cause them to lose trust in you. I have yet to have a feral cat leave the territory and safety of my care because of trapping them. AND really, the MOST important part of TNRing IS getting those cat's spayed and neutered. The trust concern is second at best  Good luck!!!!!!! And thank you for saving lives!!!! :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
