What could be wrong with his eye?

Tonight I noticed Riot scratching at his left eye. The outer corner. There was a scab. I noticed a tiny hair in his eye so I flushed it out with some natural eye stuff I have for dogs/cats. Now I notice its red and hes closing it half way most of the time.

Conjunctivitis at a guess - pink eye.  If he was mine I'd visit my vet if it's no better tomorrow.  BTW what was the natural stuff?  I would use contact lens rinsing saline, that comes in individual little tubes that you use and throw away.  It's not expensive, each little tube is sterile until you open it, and it doesn't contact preservatives which can cause problems.

If it was pink eye I would think all my other animals would have it? Especially my immune compromised dog. I will give it until Monday as the vets are closed tomorrow and Sunday. I use http://www.goodpet.com/library/pharmacyFiles/eye.asp  to rinse eyes if need be.

As for conjunctivitis I have the stuff here to use in the eyes. Had it from when my dog had an irritation last year. There is also no discharge in his eye. I will keep an eye on it as pink eye first came to my mind as well

It's very possible the hair was the problem,  you got it out, removed the irritation, and it cleared up.  I've seen it happen.

With it settling down so quickly then the hair was probably the cause.

Pink-eye might or might not spread.

However opened containers of eye wash shouldn't be kept for any length of time especially if they don't contain preservatives.  It's not clear from the link you posted if that product does, but I would check the packing for an expiry date, and for how long it can be kept once opened.

Sounds like it was just the hair irritating him. He does have such a lovely little face! That last picture is so sweet.

We had a cat many years ago that got a hair actually behind his eyeball.  The vet got it out, and his eye, which had been weepy for weeks, cleared right up.

I have seen this happen time and time again with my dog Scraps.  He is a Maltese and has long hair.  Every now and then he gets a hair in his eye and it looks horrible.  I flush it with contact lens saline solution and it usually flushes the hair out.  His eye is usually red for awhile but it all clears up and I can see his bright, shiny eyes again.  I'm guessing that is what it was but if you are still concerned, or it recurrs, call you vet.
