Apparently the purring of cats can reduce his or her owner's risk of a stroke by 30%, and a heart attack by 40%.  Purring is a calming mechanism that mama cats use on their kittens, but cats even purr when being euthanized.

The second story is about an orange tabby whose kept sniffing and literally poking around his owner's head.

The owner later suffered a mini stroke.  Well, the cat kept poking his owner's head.

She went back to the doctor, and a potentially fatal brain aneurysm was discovered.  The cat won various awards, and doctors are still puzzled as to how he knew about the aneurysm.

My guess is that because a cat's sense of smell is far better than ours, he must have smelled something different about his owner and was not only trying to tell her, but trying to discover the source of this new smell by poking her head.

It goes to show that cats indeed are very special.
