Hi everyone,

My kitten who is about 4 months old unfortunately had an incident with out window and broke her leg about a week ago. We took her to the vet when it happened and they gave her a cast and said, no running, no jumping basically no rough housing. This is a very hard task since we have another kitten who is basically her boyfriend and he is 6 months old. I have a big dog crate with a litter box, food, water, and a couple toys to occupy her while we are at work. When we get off of work I try to contain her in one room but of course she jumps runs and tries to play. Should I be worried or should it be okay as long as it dosnt get to be too much?

The only experience that I've had with broken legs was with a 2 year old greyhound who LOVED to run. His leg had to be broken and rebuilt with pins to repair it (he was abused as a puppy and suffered extreme malnourishment) and had a cast of some sort on his leg for about a year. Early after the surgery, he self regulated his use of the leg. As time went one, he used it more and more even though he had a cast on it. So here was a dog who was bred to run that stayed off of it because it hurt. What I'm saying is that most pets won't do anything that will purposefully hurt themselves. If the cast is well made and secure on your kitten, then can he do something that will cause it harm?

But I know, how to do control a rowdy kitten from doing something that comes naturally to them? If you are in doubt about the cast restraining the healing leg, call your vet.

My fudge broke her leg a few years ago and I found that she did only what felt comfortable. I suppose it would be a little more difficult with a kitten but I suspect that she won't do something that feels uncomfortable. I hope she heals soon.xx
