I live in a state that is way, way behind on Animal Welfare, let alone Animal Rights.  I live in an area that pretty much hates cats and finds them to be vermin and disposable... As a sport.  They don't "encourage" it mind you, but they certainly don't punish anyone that is guilty of it... Like my neighbor.  He traps and shoots cats with a shotgun as sport.  He doesn't care if they are someone's pet and he doesn't check first, either.  Basically, if he traps them, they are already dead.

Well, I have noticed another half dozen or so new strays/ferals in the neighborhood.  About 2 or 3 times a year this happens... All the sudden there are new strays/ferals "dumped" off around the same time.  I am told that a neighbors daughter is a kitten hoarder.  She takes them in as kittens and lets them have a litter or two and turns the adults out and keeps the kittens and repeats the cycle.

I have called all the rescues I can think of... I was basically told that they are better off dead then living on the streets and they can't take them in.  They pretty much don't care.  I can't feed them.  I don't want them to get used to being fed and more trusting of traps.  I don't know where my neighbor hides the traps anymore?  Before, when I knew, I would free them and find them another home.

These cats are beautiful and they look so scared and not sure what to do.  I want to help them so badly but I don't know how to do this or what to do with them if I do help them?  Any ideas?

That is so terribly upsetting and I am sick to here of such things. :shame: I don't even know what to tell you to do since it sounds like there is absolutely no support in your state for cat's????!!!! I find that so hard to imagine. I really hope someone else who lives in Missouri reads this and can offer you some better advice and support. I guess I would try to make some calls and find some place that can offer you advice on how to lodge a complaint against the hoarder you speak of. Your neighbor just burns me up to no end :eek:nfire: about the shooting of the cat's. I can't believe that is legal - well - allowed or accepted. Probably not legal... :sobbing: :bawling: I wish I could say more to help you. I would want to start trapping too - but where would you be able to bring the cat's ?? Who would take ALL of these cat's and try to help you find homes for them, help you socialize them, etc. Very sad situation..... thank you for caring so much. I don't know how I would be able to handle living in such a place :sigh: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Update on turned out kitty situation: I emailed my vet pleading for some advice on what to do as he is well aware of how cats are seen as vermin in this area... I didn't expect to get a reply until tomorrow at the earliest but he replied this afternoon... He said that he knows of some farmers that are willing to take the cats if I can trap them and bring them to him to be fixed. They are always ...in the need of cats to help with their pests problems on the farms. And the cats will be well fed and watered, too because well fed cats hunt better... Who knew? I guess it makes sense. If it's just a sport to them, they make less mistakes out of desperation and hunger. So, now I just need to trap the cats myself. Wish me luck!!
