I want to get something for my feral cat. I have looked into various houses. Has anyone used the feral villa or kitty tube. If not what have you used?

I use the Feral Villa. I just love that shelter. Totally insulated second level, two exits/entrances (very important to ferals), and completely waterproof. Works well and is very reasonably priced. I would not use the Kitty Tube. Not where I live with all of the snow, wind and rain. :wavey:

Is the feral villa insulated?? What i did't care about that was the whole is so close to the ground. Probably will get the kitty tube. I'm in the East Coast. Could always cover the hole a bit. Reviews on it are outstanding?? On Amazon. but thanks for your input?

Check out this link. I have ordered both the shelter and the newly created feeding station from this man. He builds them himself and can do whatever you want as far as insulation. Since I live in Michigan, I got the insulated shelter for the cold winter months and also use straw bales. My ferals did fine over the winter and I believe the shelters were used quite a bit.

I also have a friend who used the feral villa and liked the two levels in it.

Its a tuff call. I like the villa but feel they can get trapped in there. The tube they can sort of escape quicker. I just have one cat. May go for the tube as I like the vent holes on top.thanks though

Yes - the second level is completely insulated. It is well liked by ferals, at least my ferals used it all winter long.

There are two exits ..... which is very, very important. They cannot get trapped inside the villa. It was designed for that purpose. Good luck and I am sure you will be happy with either of the shelter's you get. ;)

Thanks. I just could not find any reviews on the Feral Villa (more than 2) plus there really are no pictures of the inside of it etc etc. I did see some floor plan but still was confused. Wanted to see the whole inners and outers with 2 holes etc. Feral Villa website doesn't show anything.

I just bought 2 of the feral villas and love them.  I had been using the petmate dog houses lined with purr pads and stuffed with straw prior to seeing these.  They are really very nice and well insulated.  I even put fresh straw on the top level.  I also purchased the feeding stations and like them too.  I believe these to be very well built products.

If you are concerned about really cold temperatures,  you could look into a heated shelter.  I also have one of those and found multiple cats in it on cold days.

I am resurrecting this thread for a reason. In 2013 I purchased a kitty-tube for my beloved feral cat Lilly (about a year old). She did not make it through the winter which had temps down to 0 Fahrenheit, and we found her dead in the tube. This year we have a new feral, Tig, who is faring well. She is in a FeralVilla which has a 2nd floor, insulated, sleeping area. The kitty tube, actually, had more insulation.

In my humble opinion, it is this “2nd floor” that provides greater protection to the feral kit. It gets them off the ground. If I were to use a kitty tube, again, I would place it on something that lifted it off the ground.

Good luck!

I have two kitty tubes one of them has the heating pad in it and the other one does not have the door flap on it. My mom and kittens used to sleep in them every night until I put them through TNR. It took them a while to start using it - the mom put her kittens in them to sleep at first when they were a little older (like 2 months) and she would stand guard, and eventually the mom started getting in there with them too.
