So glad you have an explanation for your eye problem!  Cataract surgery should be a quick and easy outpatient procedure.  Wishing you loads of good luck with that.

Just to throw my extra 2 cents in here: maybe you should find something to use besides Advair?

I'm glad you know what the issue is, and that you can get this taken care.  I didn't know this about advair (I don't use), I have a step-niece I think who uses it though..will be contacting her!

My cataracts came on suddenly, too, and could possibly be traced to inhalation therapy I received after surgery a month before. Anyway, got mine taken care of last May.
We're with ya when you get it done! :hugs:

Let us know when your surgey is scheduled.  As I said earlier, it's an amazing and simple procedure.  Prep time takes longer than the actual surgery --- and you'll be amazed at the results.  When I came home it seemed like every light bulb in the house was a hundred times brighter and all the colors, especially whites, were so much clearer.  My favorite story is the one the nurse told me about a patient who, after having her cataract surgery, said "why in the world did I ever paint my house this color?"   I always laugh when I think of that story.

I wonder how many  of the common ailments in our country today are caused by medications?  For example, I know that deafness is a not-uncommon side effect of oxycodone/hydrocodone addiction (think Rush Limbaugh).  I'll bet there are others that we won't know about for a number of years!

My appointment with the opthamologist is this Thursday.  My vision in general has shown some improvement since I started this thread and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.  If the opthamolgist confirms the diagnosis of a cataract I'm going to talk to my primary care doctor about possibly changing my medications.  IMO, the Food and Drug Administration needs to do a better job.

My grandad has had cataract surgery in both his eyes and he said the difference was amazing. It's a scary thing when your vision changes, my friend woke up a few weeks ago and she could hardly see out of her left eye, she went to the optician and they sent her straight to hospital, it turns out that she has an enlarged nerve and they think it may have been caused by giving birth, apparently, its rare but it happens. The scary thing is they have told her that they don't know when it will return,if it will completely or even if it will. She is just coping with it though, she is amazing I would be in pieces I think.

I hope all goes well for you.xx

I brought this thread up again so I could keep all my information together.  Besides the cataract in my left eye there is also a milder one in my right eye too.
So my first surgery is scheduled for Monday, May 21, and the second surgery is scheduled for Monday, June 4.  Just wanted to let everyone know.

That's how they did my cataract surgery-  weeks apart.   It's a breeze and you'll be amazed at the difference.

Strongly urge you to make and keep that appt.  Diagnosis is best left to a pro.  Wishing you the best! FYI I've had various eye issues including some you describe; but comparing symptoms and putting labels on them over the Internet, while it may be comforting, is really not helpful.  You only have one pair of eyes, so even if it's difficult, really suggest you see an optometrist.

I also have cataracts in both eyes. They found them when I was in my mid-thirties and I guess I'll be going through surgery sometimes in the next few years...

Good luck with your appointment - let us know how it goes.

My husband is recovering now from cataract surgery, both eyes.  At his first visit they overwhelmed him with information about Toric Lens. They were not covered by Medicare or insurance, and the charge was $1200 per eye.  They correct distance vision, but glasses still needed for reading, etc.  Hubby already wears glasses and doesn't mind them.  He did some research and decided to just go with the lens Medicare and insurance would pay for.  He will still wear his glasses but can see to read without them if he wishes.  If you are going to have the surgery, you might want to read up on the choices before you go so you wont' get overwhelmed with so much at one time.  There is another one, which is pay out of pocket expense too, but I can't remember the name.  Good luck to you if you do opt for the surgery.
