Hi Fellow Cat Lovers!

I just moved into a new house and brought the six feral cats that had been living on the 100 acre ranch I was on, with me.   There is a mom and her five 'babies' who are now 7 months old.   I have them all in the house and have one room dedicated to their toys, play structures, litter boxes, food, and water.   I have a baby gate at the door so they can go in and out at will and yet my dog can't get to their food and litter.   It is working out well, except that they are extremely active at night (when I can't monitor them!) and rip my furniture, knock over plants, and generally move things around.   I don't want them to be outside cats for safety reasons, but I'm thinking of getting the Perrfect Fence for my backyard.  Has anyone had experience with cat fencing?    If so, I'd be interested in hearing your opinion on it.

Thank you!

Nancy

Hi and welcome!!

I've never heard of that type of fence.  I think if you make a post in the care section someone might know about it: http://www.thecatsite.com/f/6/care-grooming

I would imagine having 5 kittens at that age plus the Mama cat is a lot like having a bunch of young kids running loose in your house!
Especially if they are like my 2 and get each other going!  I've had to put things away that they just wont leave alone!  Noodles used to attack this kitten figurine my Mom got me.  It's fur covered so it must look real enough...or like a toy!  And smell real!  It's in my glass china cabinet now!  hehe  The Behavior forum might have some ideas to help though.  Like trying to give all the kitties a good workout session before you go to bed and then feeding them.  Here is a link in case you need it: http://www.thecatsite.com/f/5/behavior

Hi there! I've never heard of the fencing, but I have had/seen plenty of luck with large outdoor enclosures (I use them to give my indoor kitties some time in the sunshine, but I have fellow fosters who use them for ferals.)

I did some research - and if I had the $$, the Purrfect Fence does seem to be a great solution - both keeping cats in, and keeping cats out.

I remember there was another company that was advertising a net-like container - but, when I asked about keeping former feral born cats inside - the response was that it would not - the net-like fence was mostly for cats that weren't interested in escaping, just enjoyed being out in the sun or laying in the grass.

We ended up building our own enclosure with pressure-treated wood.  Built it in sections so it could easily be taken apart to be transported should we move.  We had a cat door attached to plexiglas that pressure fits into our sliding window.

This arrangement has been working for us - and the cats seem to enjoy being outside even if it is on a limited basis.
