I was having dinner tonight with a bunch of friends, including a woman who lived with me for a short period in the old apartment.  We were telling stories about the kittens and I was regaling them with the tale of learning to sleep with the bedroom door open instead of shutting the cats out.  I was reenacting how they would run and jump through the window blinds, walk on my face, wrestle with each other and bite/scratch my legs in the process, etc.

One of the guys at the table said at one point during the story - "Wow!  It's like these cats have personalities!"

.................................. really?

....lol.

Clearly he's never owned a cat. They have more personality than most people I know.

People often come into the shelter looking for a cat/kitten, sometimes with their child, and they just stare at me when I ask them what kind of personality they're looking for.  I mean, even at a young age, they can be very different.

Don't know if any of you have read Homer's Odyssey - the story of a blind kitty.  Anyway, the author, who had three cats, met and fell in love with a guy who had never had a cat.  It took him a while to realize just how much personality a cat  had, but he was converted!

I don't think he's owned any pets, even my two rats have their own personalities! Great story, made me chuckle, thanks for the share

That's nothing. One of my friends was over at my apartment petting my cat, and he jumped back when my cat licked him. He was shocked because he didn't even know that cats have rough tongues.

I think it's pretty neat when people realize stuff like that. Some things that we take for granted as common knowledge are things other people have no experience with at all. Nice that your guy friend was listening.

when i first started dating DH 20 years ago he said "cats, what good are they. they eat, poop and sleep."

well, now we have 10 furry children. and all are spoiled rotten, each with a different purr-sonality.

Exactly! When my ex-husband and I were together, we had cockatiels. I never knew until then that they had such diverse personalties. Some of them were so loveable that they would be on my shoulder every minute they were out of their cages. Several of them looked the same, but I could tell who they were by their behavior.

I guess it's the same for those who are unexperienced with cats.
