Hi,

I've been trying to find a average growth rate chart for the domestic cat without any luck. Does anyone know where I can find this information? The reason I am asking is that I have a 4 month old male DSH silver tabby, who is currently 7lbs, but is very long and lean. I am trying to guesstimate an adult size.
The only thing I have been able to find is that kittens put on 3-4 ounces a week up to 6 months of age. Nemo has been growing a pound every 2 weeks, so about double that rate. This will put him at 11 pounds at 6 months of age
At 3 months he was 5 lbs and the vet said that most cats are usually 6 months at that size. Anyone have experience with this type of explosive growth? I also have an 18lb Ocicat, but at a year he was only about 12lbs, he really needs to drop 2lbs, he's turning into a little piggy.
So what's the deal with Nemo's growth?

Thanks!

Good question! I also have a fast growing boy (7 pounds at 5 months and as long as my adult cat Bob (although 1 inch shorter)) and have tried to find the same information. His feral father appears to be in the 18 pound range.

My vet says the average growth is about a pound a month up to 6 months, then it starts tapering off from there. He laughs and tells me that Muddy will be a big boy. That's all the information that I have ever been able to find.

I'll watch for responses with you - couldn't find anything on the internet on the topic.
