Stomach lump

Let me preface this by saying that I just adopted my feline friend a week ago from a shelter; therefore, I have no idea how long she's had this.

Last Monday, I adopted Frankie, took her to the vet for an examination (in which the vet felt her belly for abnormalities while she was standing), and then two days later, had her spayed. So until now, as her incision is healing and she's getting more comfortable with me and her environment, I haven't really been able to touch/rub her stomach.

A few minutes ago, she was lying on her back half-asleep, and I reached over and began to rub her belly. That's when I noticed a lump or knot of some sort on the left side of her stomach, below her ribcage and about an inch above her navel scar to the left. It's smaller than a walnut but larger than a marble, and it's not at all evident just by looking at it. It's clearly *inside*, not bulging outside. She didn't seem to have any discomfort when I touched it, and when she stretched her body out in reaction to my rubbing her belly, it disappeared, as if it was part of her muscle that was then stretched out.

She's up and moving around now, and I can't get her to lie back down again for me to feel it (we're not at that stage in our relationship yet, haha--she's still a tad skittish), but when I pick her up and feel around for it, I can't really tell if I feel it or not. It all feels like muscle and ribs and normal organs, etc.

Does anyone have an ideas as to what this could be? Hopefully it's not serious. It actually feels very similar to the lump at the bottom of her spay incision, just up and to the left. She also hasn't pooped today, and the lump I felt was kind of in the same area as the intestines in humans. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to TCS! Congratulations on bringing a feline friend into your home so recently - I hope you get around to telling us more about her and yourself, and post some pictures!

I think it's wonderful you're so attuned to her and checking her over while petting is a great practice. Since she was so recently checked by a vet and even operated on, she's very probably quite alright. I would have been worried about some possible post-op infection, but you mentioned it wasn't painful, so probably not even that.

If it was a momentarily muscle twitch or even poop, it should be gone by now, so let us know how she's doing today. If you're still feeling that, it's never a bad idea to ask the vet to give her another look over - you could even just phone in and express your concern and see what your vet suggests.

Again, welcome, and let us know how she's doing!

Welcome aboard!!

I would watch it and see if it moves, changes in size, shape, or firmness.  If it's still there in a couple of weeks, I'd take her back to the vet.
