Hi all -- During the past week I've spotted a white cat in our back yard near the woods who is having difficulty walking.  We used the binoculars and it appears to have deformed rear legs.  It walks 5 or 6 steps, then stops to sit down.  The cat appears well fed and doesn't seem hungry.  It is out in the nice weather so far.  What would you do?  Would you approach it next time you spot it?  Maybe with food?   I personally wouldn't let a cat out who can't walk very well, so I'm worried that it has been abandoned.  If it has been abandoned and has issues, then what do we do?  Any advice would sincerely be appreciated!!  Thank you

If he is abandoned, or just walking on foot, you can surely take him in a carrier.   (have gloves and thick clothes on)

If you see he is very shy - use a trap.

Into a quarantine - and seek owners.  If abandoned you will not find them, but if walking about or astray you will find them.

Do is asap.  If freshy dumped he is in great danger before he has learned to avoid predators and such.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply.  I am worried about the little soul.  I'll keep my eyes open for it.

No cat in that condition could hunt well enough to be in good shape, so that would make me believe it might be someone's pet who got out accidentally, or it's been living a fairly sheltered life on someone's porch, or something.

I would try to take action and rescue this kitty. If it is friendly, then most likely a lost or abandoned pet. Could have been recently injured and needs immediate help. Will not survive on it's own if he needs to hunt. I would offer food and see if you can take the cat in and try to find an owner. Ask around the neighborhood too is someone has seen this cat. Poor kitty, thanks for trying to help. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Thanks for all your good advice.  I didn't see it last yesterday at all.  My husband gets home from work earlier than me and he is also looking for it.  I'll keep you posted!   I sincerely hope it has owners who are just letting it out for a bit once in a while.... fingers crossed for it!
