She does not really attack me, as much as she is very unpredictable in that I will be petting her and she will be fine and then she will turn around and bite me. Or I will stop petting her and she will turn around and swipe at me. I think hers has more to do with being uncomfortable and that when i pet her the kittens kick her and it hurts and she takes it out on me. But hopefully she will not take the pain of birth out on me and attack me if I have to help her. We will see.

I know alll about the waiting game...seems they wait until they're good and ready! lol~

I have not had prego moms inside my home, but have had many very pregnant homeless/ferals in my custody (cat room) who have delivered.

Their behavior does get different, the last 2 weeks mostly.

I was never too fond of attempting to shove a thermometer into a feral pregnant mom's butt, so I have only heard that this is a sign of things soon to come.

What I HAVE noticed with each mom, is the nesting, they get really concerned about the spot they plan to deliver in. Fluffing, puffing, rearranging, etc. to make it "just so".

The nesting starts a couple weeks beforehand, yes, but gets intense just before delivery.

Also staying out of sight more or less is a sign.

In case this is your first time, and hers, please be prepared with scissors and dental floss, which is commonly the case needing your assistance. Clean towels, etc. too.

That way you will be ready to cut the cords if mom doesn't do it, or soon enough. The floss works perfect to tie the cord off, but wait for mom to if she is attempting.

The towels are for any babies who might need a "jump start". Just hold in the towel and rub semi-briskly. If baby is not breathing simply hold between both hands supporting the head well and swing in a downward/swift motion. This will clear any fluids in the mouth and throat, then baby can be put up to momma to nurse.

One litter was born while I was away for a couple hours, I came back and peeked in, finding 5 babies, all tangled together and cold.

Talk about panic, luckily my daughter was with me, as 2 sets of hands were needed to get the fast action these kids needed to survive.

They all did.

Good luck!

To mke clear: The scissors shall be blunt. The cord is more or less selfsealing if cut with a blunt scissor (or with your nails). Cut with sharp scissors demand binding up the cord...

Wait a while so the blood isnt pulsating any more, and try to cut as long away from the kitten as reasonably possible.

Your advices Catwoman are otherwise good.

Lilkim.  The red vulva should be OK, there is much blood in there preparing for the delivery. Just so, there will be a tremendous work the vulva will do very soon...

Loose stool is common shortly before delivery. So probably very near now.

If she has more than 4 kittens, try not let her eat up all the afterbirths, mothercakes.  Many can give diarrheas.

Good luck!

Her wanting to go out I guess this is the old some has they go out when it is time to deliver.

Some want to be with Mom, others want to be alone - even outside.

Yes, I think in these circumstances that is normal. Moms seek always shelter for their kittens when the time is nearing. So most wants to be in and making ready the nest. With or without Mom.

Her problem is, she is used to be outside as you tell, and she doesnt see you as Mom for 100% yet...

Do you have a calm, relaxing music on? it may help some.

Moms do talk to their kittens.  And friendly toms use voice much to court females.

So singing soft, or talking friendly, is a very natural language with the cats.

Sometimes it works stronger, sometimes just so so, but it works.   :)

*vibes*

@lilkim, sounds like she is in labour.

Breaking the cord - mostly mum does it.  If necessary I simply tear it with my clean fingers as far away from the kitten as possible.  It's vital to avoid pulling on the kitten's tummy, so tear towards the kitten.
