Hi guys,

I have a friend who lives oversea where rx food is not available.  She asked me to buy Hills K/D and  ship to her, but prescription from vet is required.  Does anyone have prescription that I can use?  Her cat can't eat anything but K/D.

Any suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you talked to your vet about the situation? Perhaps if your friend can get a letter certified by her vet, then your vet would write an RX on her behalf.

It's been a long time since I dealt with renal issues in my gang, so don't remember which ingredients to avoid. I didn't have mine on a prescription diet, but avoided some foods that were high in certain ingredients - I recall being sensitive to proteins, but not specifically if I should have avoided them or promoted them. With a little research, there may be options for foods that aren't prescription based.

Thanks for the reply.  I will try to ask my vet.  I also don't feel it's necessary to give rx food, but I don't have CRF experience to give her any suggestion...   Maybe she should just get food with low phosphorus and protein.

K/D isn't the most palatable stuff.  Precious is in CRF and I've all but given up on the K/D.  You might suggest to your friend that she get a couple of cans and see if the cat will even eat it.
