I have not been able to find my cat..help!!!!

Hello my name is Darlene Arreola and i just moved 3 weeks ago to a new city  thats only about 10 minutes away from where i use to live and along with us moved our indoor/outdoor cat Fibie. I kept her in for a week and on her own she decided it was time for her to go out. I let her out in the back yard and she sniffed around and then i brought her back in and 2 days later she was crying to go out so i figured she was ready. That same day we were scheduled to pick up our new puppy and I waited for Fibie to come home so i can introduce her to Abby and she never came back. I have tried the new neighbors, I posted flyers, i have been vistiting 2 surrounding animal shelters and go on to their web site daily and still nothing. I feel horrible and sooo sad. Im thinking maybe I made a mistake by adopting a puppy to soon. Do you think she did come back but smelled the puppy and ran away?

That's possible, but not especially likely.  More likely is that she got lost, or someone took her inside, or she got hurt, or she got scared, ran in a panic, and then couldn't find her way back.

If you look through the messages here, you'll find lots of suggestions, such as putting some food by the door, sitting on a well-worn and unwashed T shirt or other article of clothing, so she'll recognize your smell.

If you look for her at night, with a flashlight, you may see her eyes glowing more easily.

Also, if you have any contact with old neighbors, ask them to look out for her. Cats have an amazing sense of direction and she may have tried to go back home. Our RB kitty, Sami, once escaped from the vet and found her way home, which was a 15 minute highway drive away. Took her 2-3 days. Post on sites for lost pets in your area too.

Hope you find your girl!

Thank you for respoding so quickly....I will put one of my used t-shirts out, i already sprinkled her used litter around the front of my house and at the corner of the block and left her litter box in the back yard so she can smell her scent. I have kept in touch with my old neighbors and i even talked to the family who moved in my old apartment and gave her a picture and my number. I still go by there at the time Fibie knew i was coming home. I was thinking if she was traveling to our old home she would have to pass by Rose Hills Cemetary. I called maintenance and asked them if they have found any living or deceased cats because there is coyotes that rome that area. They said the only thing they found was a skunk. I cry for her every day but not infront of my kids but this morning i herd a cat crying and i jumped up and yelled " Its Fibie!" and it turned out to be Animal Planet on tv. I couldnt help it i started to bawl. My heart was lifted and quickly dropped.....thanks again you guys, im not giving up.

I feel so bad for you. I'd be beside myself with worry.

If you read the threads regarding lost cats on this forum, you'll find that some people had success using humane traps, with irresistible bait. Sometimes these traps can be borrowed from shelters, rescues, vets, or TNR groups.

Lots of prayers and vibes.gif that your kitty comes home safe and sound VERY SOON!!!

Please keep us posted, because we care.

I will....I'm going to one of the shelters today to see if they have her. The only thing I hate is having to look on their deceased animal list. I will give you an update soon. Thanks again I really need the support and prayers.\

You  have possibly already done this, but a couple of other suggestions are contact all the vet clinics in your area, and place lost pet ads in the local newspapers and community bulletin boards.

Sending lots of vibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifthat you find Fibie again very soon.  Please update us.  Good luck!!!!

how do i post this on facebook?

Facebook is unlikely to help as whilst it has a lot of members, that's still a small minority of people.

Hopefully your cat has a microchip.  Have you rung all the shelters in your area?  And kept ringing, especially if your cat doesn't have a chip?  And the local vets?  Dunno about the US, but in the UK they just about all scan for chips now, and so does my vet when it gets a cat brought in, dead or alive.  I've got a cat back because he had a chip.

Did you leaflet round where you live now, and round where you lived?  I've got a cat back with a leaflet in the shop in the village.

Can you put a free ad 'cat lost' in your local newspapers?  On Gumtree?  On any local web resources?

In the UK we also ring the council refuse department as they keep records of dead cats they recover.  :(

Unfortunatly she was not chipped. I look on the county shelter sites everyday, it shows you the  pictures of the animals just found. I have called all vets in the area I lived and in the area i live now wich is only 8 minutes away. I have posted flyers all over the areas, I place ads in the pennysaver but Im not sure where to find a counsel refuse department? I still drive around with her picture and ask people who are walking along the way. I have sprinkled her litter, left out my dirty clothes so she can sniff her way home. I feel exausted but im not giving up. I feel that someone has her against her will and one day she will get out and find her way home. The shelters told me that there are alot of coyotes where i live but i asked the neighbors and they all say they have not seen any maybe because there are lots of big dogs in the yards.

Hello,

well I still have not found Fibie sniffle.gif but still not giving up. I feel like a regular at the baldwin park shelter but in visiting looking for Fibie, I ended up rescuing a mama cat and her three kittens by fostering them for a kitty rescue. I ended up keeping one kitten. My daughter named him Prince and he's all black with grayish green eyes. He is about 9 weeks old and we also adopted a 3 month old puppy that is half Argentine Dogo and half Pitbull, we named him Duke. So now we have Abby our 5 in half old beagle, Duke and Prince. Prince loves to attack the pups and they also try to play back but I watch them very closely cause both pups are breeded for hunting and not sure if their instincs will take over and hurt the little guy. I still miss Fibie sooo much. If she comes back I will want to give her so much love so she won't feel jealous or like she doesnt belong there anymore. I dont feel a coyote has got her like people say probably happened, my family and I feel that someone caught her, feel in love with her and doesnt want to let her go.

Maybe she did not realize this was her new home yet.  Sending prayers your way that she finds her way back to her new home.

I happen to be fond of Dogo's and Pitbulls. I wish you much happiness with your new fur family and still send loads of vibes that Fibie will still be found. vibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gif

Well its been almost 6 months since my Fibie has been missing. About a month ago a neighbor called  out of the blue and said he seen Fibie. He said that she looked healthy. This is the neighbor that lives on the next block over. We call him the cat man cause he has alot of cats around. God forgive me but I have always suspected that he has her. I feel that he collects the nice looking ones for himself. Im getting ready to pass out more flyers on the other side of my area just incase someone has seen her. In the mean time my kitten Prince keeps trying to get out. I already nuetered him a week ago and he still whinning and trying hard to get out.  feel sad because I know i could NEVER let him out because of the coyotes. I  hopeing that I find Fibie soon so he can have companionship while we are out during the day. My husband is totally against me getting another kitten so there goes that idea unless i only foster one for short term...hmmmmm. The new pic is Prince when I first rescued him from the pound.

Is there anyone you can contact, to go see if this guy has her w/out proof? With the word of someone that thinks he's seen her?

Is there a ASPCA in your area? Do you think they would help check it out??  Just trying to think of a way........

Good luck sweetie!  I hope you can get her back. I'd go over there when he wasn't home & see what I could see! wink.gifwink.gif

Keep us posted! :)

That would be so incredible if this "cat man" has seen your Fibie! I would go and hang out over by his house and see if you can find her dontknow.gif I hope if this is your kitty that he will help to get her back to you. That would be so amazing if this is really true. I am happy for you and hopeful. cross.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gif

Yes...when i first lost Fibie I would drive by the Cat Man house almost every night for about a month or two. I felt like a stalker..lol. Once my suspicion grew more I called the dog shelter and asked for help and they said they would go out but, I honestly dont know if they really did. I will look into the ASPCA.

But this IS your cat - Fibie... hugs.gif So you should not feel like a stalker dontknow.gif I would be doing the same thing if it were a possibility that my lost cat was over there. This is such an emotional situation for you, hun. So sorry you are going through this. I hope you can get an answer as to IF this kitty is really Fibie or not. vibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gif

If the guy called you he's hardly trying to keep your cat. If he wanted to keep her he wouldn't call dontknow.gif. Why don't you just go knock on his door and ask if you can look at all the cats that hang around his house and see if one is Fibie? I know I'd be thrilled if anyone came and claimed one of "my" ferals/strays.

See I was puzzled by his call so I called back several times to see if he has seen her again cause the plan was that when he sees her Im suppose go over there and

try to get her to come to me. Every btime I called he would say" no she has not came back". My husband thinks that maybe he feels bad about keeping her and just wanted to relieve my worries by telling me that she looked healthy. I started to drive by again and nothing. He has a lock on his front gate so I cant walk into his yard and knock on the door but, the last time I attempted to call him out I noticed his truck has a snug with a cage like window and also he has somthing tall and squarish looking covered with a blue tarp on the side of the house. That is actually why my suspicion grew. I went over another time and he was out there with a young couple and I asked if I can give them a flyer and the Girl came close and looked at the flyer and said " oh we would know if that cat was around here because of the pattern on her fur is different."

Your suspicion of him is odd to me. . .trust me, nobody in rescue is interested in keeping a cat just because she's pretty. He's probably up to his ears in cats, it's not like he really wants to keep yours. Just call him and ask if you can look around in his yard, call for her, etc. Cats tend to congregate, so if she's anywhere in the neighborhood she's probably there, even if he hasn't seen her.

Maybe its because im so desprite to find her or maybe its because he's also a horder. Not sure at this point but I will go down there or call to ask if i can look around.
