Hi and glad you are back. Not surprising to hear that Sally has regressed a bit in your absence. Was to be expected :hugs:  Not to worry, your sweet Sally, will be just as sweet as ever very soon. I love it that Flaco has taken on the role of "mentor" to Sally!!! I think you will see in just a matter of a few days that Sally will re-adjust and soon feel safe and secure. I am sure she was feeling stressed with you gone and the "nervous" neighbor caring for her. I bet Sally is happy you are back  :vibes::vibes:

You're right!  She is back on her window perch and will let me pet her, so , we are making fast progress.  She is still "thinking about" how much of the upstairs she wants, but all in good time.  As long as she is eating and not spending her days crouched on cold concrete, I am happy.

Dear Little Sally!  I am able to give her nice long petting sessions as long as she is up in her perch above me.  She lets me pet her while she is eating in the morning too.  A couple of days ago, I was downstairs with her and Flaco (big brother) was there too.  She ran right over to him and touched his nose in a very sweet way and then walked away.  He, meanwhile, is spending more and more time down there.  Sometimes he is talking to her, sometimes noshing on her kibble, sometimes just sitting there (although I think she is just around the corner).

Here is my question:  Is he preventing her from coming upstairs?  Or, is she just still working on that one?  He does not seem to be threatening her.  But, I don't speak cat.

You mean you can't speak CAT???!!! :flail: Wouldn't that solve ALL of our troubles if we could. :lol3: I don't think Flaco is preventing Sally from coming upstairs. He is probably waiting for her to come on up!! She is just secure right where she is, for the moment. In time, curiosity and wanting to expand her horizons will bring her up step by step !!!! Great update :clap::clap::clap:

Thanks Feralvr!  Today it is raining and there is thunder and can tell myself that I no longer need to worry if she is wet, cold and afraid so, that alone is worth the wait.  Last night, Flaco slept down in the basement, I place his second little bed down there and he seemed really fine with it.  It's the best night's sleep I have had in a long time with no cold wet nose waking me at 3:00AM.

:lol3: AW You have been replaced for the time being by a sweet kitty named Sally :rub: So get your beauty sleep while you can get it. I have a kitty who wakes me up numerous times at night by sleeping on my head :lol2: I don't have the heart to shut him out. I would love to have a good nights sleep

It is such a relief, isn't it.... No more worry about Sally out in the bad weather. :D She is a happy camper for sure now. Well loved and darn happy  :heart3: I think Flaco is a real sweetie. He really cares about Sally

I thought it was time for a Sally update.  We had to leave town for a minor family emergency last week, but, for once, I was not as worried about leaving Flaco alone as I know he and Sally are becoming good friends.  Our cat sitter still could not find Sally while we were gone, but I knew she was fine.  When we got back, I could tell that Flaco was calmer, he has a buddy now, so he is not so lonely and, the funniest part, one small corner of the oriental rug was totally covered in downy white fur (Ms. Sally is quite the shedder).  So, I know she probably spent a lot of time upstairs with Flaco.  My husband is still trying to figure out where they hid the pizza boxes, ha!

Since we have been back, she is getting bolder about coming upstairs.  She now waits for me to put out the morning wet food and, today, she followed me up to the kitchen while I washed out the two bowls (one for her, one for Flaco).  I put her food on the landing and, sure enough, both she and her big brother were happily eating there.  As I told my dear husband, I am not sure we are going to be completely happy with getting her upstairs as i suspect we are going to have to do a lot more vacuuming.  That seems a small price to pay for a very affectionate little girl.

:clap::clap::clap: OH I am sorry, I have to laugh :lol3: about the vacuuming comment. I have SIX and am constantly cleaning off cat hair on the furniture, etc. I try to keep them well brushed weekly. But hard to keep up all that springtime shedding. :D

SO HAPPY to hear that Flaco and Sally are getting along so well. It just takes time. Sweet Sally is very lucky to have you and your wonderful DH looking after her. And soon, I think you will have two furry kitties in your bed at night - and those cold wet noses. :rub: :hugs: Great news and thanks for the update!!!

OH. sorry about your family emergency... hope all is alright now. :cross: I guess that gave Flaco and Sally some time to really bond together  :D

Sally Update:  Last night, Sally finally revealed to us her real name. It is Asha B. (after Asha Bhosle the famous Indian singer).  It is an appropriate name.  "Asha" means "hope" in Hindi and "Life" in Swahili.  So, namaste Asha!

Hello All,

We are approaching the 3 month mark for Asha's (aka Sally) rescue and she still spends most of her time in the basement.  It is kind of depressing down there, dark and dank.  She comes up in the morning to eat breakfast and look out the front screen door.  Sometimes, she emerges in the late evening to peek at us but, otherwise, as far as I can tel she is just in the basement.  We are getting worried that she is never going to come upstairs and we are concerned that she is lonely down there.  Any ideas?

Try not to feel bad for her... she obviously is doing really well and is taking things according to her comfort level. I think it is great that she comes up in the morning and evening for a little bit. She will make small steps on her own time. AND it could be a very long time - but eventually, curiosity will get the best of her, hopefully, and she will emerge more and more. My Perla hides a lot during the day. She is a total loner too and makes me sad for her too. But I think she is just happy to be HER - the :princess: Perla. Cats - feral or not - all have varying degrees of personality traits. Some will be lap cats and some will be the total opposite. I am sure Asha is just so happy to HAVE a loving, caring, safe home. I would not worry about her being lonely - she knows where you are if and when she is ready :D :clap::clap:

Thanks Feralvr,

She is doing better.  She does not run every time she sees us now and is learning to play.  She is just so affectionate when I am with her in the basement and when she sees her big brother.  So, we will keep a place for her at the table.

:clap::clap: And she knows she is always welcome!!! Fabulous that she is so affectionate with you when you are downstairs with her! That is just great and will eventually transfer to upstairs WHEN SHE decides :lol3: She is a "girl" kitty afterall and they do things only when they are good and ready. :hugs: :rub: ;)
